I have a number of projects that I'm still working on in Cakewalk by Bandlab, so I wanted to see how my Presonuns Faderport 8 would work there. Personally I find the X Touch to be more suitable for Cakewalk simply because it runs on the Mackie MCU protocol, and the Presonus FaderPort is physically configured for HUI protocol. Originally specifically designed by Avid for use with Pro Tools, it has since been adapted for use to gain market share for Avid to enter the wider world of Windows users. Avid and Pro Tools entered the world of Windows PCs users late in the game. It wasn't until Avid bought M Audio for their rock solid M-Power drivers technology did Pro Tools users enjoy any even close stability on Windows PCs.

Yeah probably Magix need to seriously update software drivers for modern midi controllers. Even I can't believe there are dinosaur drivers still within Sound Forge like JLCooper Media Control Station 2 1997 and Roland MCR-8 1994, I am curious how many people keep using such dinosaur devices out there? Most of Media Control Station 2 only built with RS-422 or RS-232 9Pin interface, and I see no MCR-8 ever popped up on EBay so far. How do we get them useful??

So Magix it's time to update driver at least do that for once supported hardware. Or you guys just design your own controller for Acid, Vegas and Sound Forge, see Push for Live, Fire for FL Studio, Atom for Studio One, even Reason has Nektar supports. Beware, more and more Acid users quit and go after Studio One.

Finally I found the ultimate answer by using FaderPort1 V2 versus FaderPort Classic comparatively.

To my question above, the FaderPort V2 truly does NOT work with Magix Acid and Magix Vegas, no matter what you set it to Mackie Control mode or put old FaderPort DLL file into External Control Drivers folder of Acid/Vegas. NO! It does NOT.

But FaderPort Classic truly DOES work with Acid/Vegas very well! You can control many things for Acid/Vegas from it, except for video tracks in Vegas.

I was trying to get the FaderPort Classic to work with BandLab Cakewalk, driver installation was ok, and I found FaderPort was at the list of control surface, but unfortunately they did NOT communicate each other. I didn't try it with old Sonar, probably was the same and it's unnecessary.

There is no exclusive mode of FaderPort V2 for Cakewalk, but you can use it with Mackie Control mode, just make sure you click the checkbox Select Highlights Track let yourself are able to see where the single fader is placed every time moves from one track to another.

Ok, so finally I do have multiple FaderPorts stack around my desk. Very funny hunh? LOL. And yes because I already have FaderPort V2 which is more capable, I was considering to purchase Studio One and Atom controllers to work with. But for now I am still in using Acid with FaderPort Classic, yes I love Acid! I hope Magix can do something further to Acid more than just regular software updates, a hardware-software integration is important.

Tip for new users: Make sure you use a somewhat older computer with a USB2.0 port to update the firmware on the Faderport. I can confirm that updating does not work on a macBookPro with USB3.0 ports. After updating the firmware, the faderport works great on a USB3.0 port directly on my MacBookPro. It does not seem to work well via my USB hub.

It's been a looong time since I first read this thread and the solution always worked for me! However - since an update recently (I'm still in Logic Pro 10.4.8. due to stuck with macOS High Sierra). Right now the faderport does not work properly anymore. Still all the buttons are working correct, but the motorfader is doing weird things. For example. The track that is selected is always bouncing around 0.5dB in Volume. But the worst is, that if a switch to a track from another, then the volume setting gets copied from the one before, as if the motorfader is not able to come down, so the software fader just gies up. Very annoying and therefore useless....

I'm actually not sure if I'm responsible for the bug cause I installed the Presonus Universal Control Software and updated the firmware of the Hardware itself. It could be that the bug comes from there... I just had the idea that Presonus somehow after that many years brings an "official" running supported version of the driver.... So that's obviously not the case....
