Age Level: 2-4 years
Goal of Lesson: Learn about all 5 senses through 5 different sensory activities (can be done over a course of time; week, month, etc. or create stations)
Learning Skills: hands-on activities to learn about the 5 senses of the body (hearing, sight, taste, smell, touch)
Materials:
Hearing - anything that makes sounds; toy instruments, bells, rubber bands, combs, water bottles, wrappers, etc)
Touch - anything that has texture; sand, rocks, beans, orbeez, feathers, tissue paper, cotton balls, etc) and small bowls/trays
Taste - something bitter, salty, sour, sweet; (ex. cocoa powder, lemon, M&M, salt) and plates
Smell - things to smell (ex. fruit, sauces, or you could even use scented hand sanitizers), small non-see through containers with holes poked at the top, and paper/signs with names/pictures of the scents used
Sight - fun things to see (ex. crayons, buttons, little figures, wrappers, paperclips, etc) water bottle, black or white beans, rice, sand, something to fill extra space in the bottle
Hearing:
1. Set up a tray with things that can make sounds.
2. Have students create a sound with objects and then recreate the sound using their mouth.
Touch:
1. Set up bowls and fill with different sensory objects to feel.
2. Have students touch and describe how each thing feels. Have students compare textures.
Taste:
1. On a paper plate, put something buttery, salty, sour, and sweet.
2. Have students taste a small sampling of each flavor. Have them describe what each tastes like and compare flavors.
Smell:
1. In small, non-see through containers with holes on the top, fill with different scents
2. Print out paper signs with name and/or pictures of the scent.
3. Have students smell each scent and guess what the scent is. Have students put scent container onto the corresponding sign.
Sight:
1. In a water bottle, put objects with a filler to hide the objects. Leave some room in the bottle so that the students can move the bottle to find objects.
2. On a tray, put the same objects that are in the water bottle so that the students know what to find. See if students can find all the objects.
