Age Level: 3-4 year old
Goal of Lesson: Have students create catapults out of popsicle sticks and see how far they can launch items.
Learning Skills: Building/following directions, estimating measurements using common items
Materials: 7 popsicle sticks, 3 rubber bands, bottle cap, cotton balls (to launch).
1. Stack 5 popsicle sticks together, and rubber band the ends together.
2. Stack 2 popsicle sticks together, and wrap a rubber band around the very end.
3. Separate the 2 craft sticks. Place the stack of 5 popsicle sticks between the 2 popsicle sticks.
5. Glue a cap onto the top of the two sticks to serve as a launching platform.
6. Give students cotton balls to launch.
*optional activities to do
-make it a competition to see how far each student can launch their cotton ball.
-measure how far cotton ball is launched using common items (ex. building blocks).
