Age Level: 2-4 year old
Goal of Lesson: Turn a straw into a musical instrument.
Learning Skills: Gain fine motor skills through using scissors to cut angles into straws. Helps develop love for music and making rhythms.
Materials:1 straw, 1 scissor, 1permanent marker
1. Get a straw and a pair of scissors
2. Squeeze and crease one end of a straw until it is flat
3. Draw a "v" shape to the squeezed and creased end of the straw
4. Cut along the "V" shape that was drawn on the straw
5. Put the "V" in your mouth and then blow. If you don't get a sound coming out of your straw move it slowly in and out of your mouth until it makes a sound.
6. Play and experiment! See what kind of different sounds and pitches you can make. See what sounds are made when you cut different shapes into the straw.
