DIY Bookmarks

Age Level: 4 year old

Goal of Lesson: Inspire students to read more by making their own custom bookmark.

Learning Skills: grow students creativity and sense of style. how to find motivation to do something

Materials: paper strips, coloring supplies (markers, paint, crayons, stickers etc), string

Pre-Step

1. Teachers cut paper (the thicker the better) into rectangular "bookmark shaped" pieces.

1. Show students bookmark inspiration (examples below).

2. Give students the pieces of paper and have them color and design the bookmarks. Let them be creative.

3. Then poke a hole at the top of the bookmark and tie a string through it.

4. Then give students free time to read and use their bookmarks. This will inspire them to want to read more so they can use their bookmarks.
