In the class, students will develop a host of transferrable skills. They begin by learning how to write sound cases by crafting persuasive arguments and applying appropriate evidence; they will also get detailed feedback to revise their writing. Students then develop strategies to question and attack their opponents' cases, as well as ways to defend their own arguments. Finally they compete against fellow debaters, learning how to think on their feet and deliver extemporaneous rebuttals with eloquence and confidence. Again, they get plenty of feedback so they can sharpen their performance in future debates. As the course progresses, debaters will explore and debate many current controversies. The teacher will also organize teams to participate national level debate tournaments
