If you are a new born-again Christian - (born of God, in other words) - and you are unfamiliar with Satan's strategies to steal your peace and joy and confidence in God and God's Word, here is one of the MOST COMMON strategies Satan and his demons employ to keep you from walking in greater joy and peace with the Lord:  THEY CONSTANTLY LIE TO YOU.

In fact, Satan's greatest success for those of us who are IN Christ Jesus is to get us to believe his lies. The less we know about God's Word (The Holy Bible; especially the New Covenant/Testament), the easier it is for him to get us to believe his lies. The less we know about how to understand and correctly APPLY God's Word (See: Wise Rules of Bible Interpretation), the easier it is for Satan to get us to believe his lies. Satan is constantly trying to convince people that the Bible cannot be trusted, and/or it is necessary to go to sources other than the Bible to learn how we are to please God. (Reading what others have to say about specific Bible topics can be greatly beneficial, but without careful discernment from the Holy Spirit on the reader's part, Satan can greatly confuse and deceive people)

Christians always need to be aware: God's Word to humanity was given to us to help understand everything God wants us to understand about Him in this dispensation and how to live our lives pleasing to Him, but we must remember God's Word always needs to be wisely interpreted before we can correctly apply it ... and only the Holy Spirit has the ability to do that perfectly. Consulting - quoting the Word of God without applying the wisdom of the Holy Spirit to obtain God's correct understanding of His Word is how Satan leads us so subtly astray into spiritual error - spiritual deception. (Here is another excellent writing to help make this more clear to the reader:  http://www.watchman.org/cults/interprt.htm). God tells us in the first three chapters in the Book of Proverbs the crucial importance of seeking wisdom. It is impossible to receive the wisdom God is referring to in these three chapters without acknowledging our need for the Holy Spirit being the One God has given us to have wisdom imparted to us in all matters spiritual - especially when it comes to receiving all that God wants us to know regarding His Word.

As a sidebar:  God's Word does not always provide specifics regarding life's unique situations we must deal with at times ... which is WHY, I believe, God stresses so much in the first three chapters of Proverbs to always seek Him for wisdom. God knows what is right for each of us at any given time and situation we face.  God is greatly honored when we intensely - patiently seek Him for wisdom and direction (which often includes understanding) in every situation we face, and if our lives are not lived to truly honor God in accordance with His spiritual Truth, we may painfully discover a great deal more about what God is getting at in James 1:5-7: If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord.  With patience and persistence on our part ... God silences doubt and imparts faith as is needed to receive His wisdom in specific situations to those who purpose to live their lives truly honoring Him in alignment with spiritual Truth.  And God's Word tells us:  God's Word is Truth - Jesus Christ is Truth - The Holy Spirit is Truth; to guide us and to reveal Truth to us.

A second important sidebar:  The wisest thing we can do is constantly inquire of the Lord about important decisions we must make, because in so doing, it demonstrates to Him just how much we purpose to depend upon Him instead of depending upon ourselves and/or others, which to God, is a form of idolatry -- trusting anything else but Him as being our source of wisdom. [Prayer and trust (and fasting) demonstrates our dependence on God. We may grow weary in prayer and in trusting ... but let us always remember that when we continue to pray and trust with a willingness to obey ... we are demonstrating to God our desire to keep honoring Him.]

The less we know about our position IN Christ Jesus, the easier it is for Satan to keep us bound in emotional and spiritual prisons we may not ever realize we're IN, let alone know God wants us to be freed from.

Let's say it another way. The less we know about our New Covenant rights, the easier it is for Satan to keep us bound ...

The way God expects disciples of Jesus Christ to appropriate their New Covenant rights is by faith - trust. Faith - trust in WHAT? Faith - trust in God's written Word. Faith - trust in God's written Word wisely interpreted - wisely applied. Unwavering faith - trust in the promises of God in His New Covenant Word to disciples of Jesus Christ eager to please God by walking in ever-increasing obedience to Him.

(A couple of important insights about applying the Word of God. The Old Testament or better yet stated ... the Old Covenant ... was written to and for the Jews. The New Covenant - the New Testament - was written for EVERYONE (including the Jews of course). The New Covenant nullified the Old Covenant. Be AWARE that Satan through Christians constantly tries to pull things out of the Old Covenant and combine them with the New Covenant. His greatest reason for doing this is to keep you confused. Learn as quickly as you can how to spot when this is happening, and FLEE from sources doing such!)

This writing is to help you who yet don't fully realize ... let alone believe ... who you are ... IN Christ Jesus. Seeking God with everything in you to receive revelation and understanding of who God the Father says you are IN Christ Jesus will greatly hinder Satan and his demons from keeping you locked up in emotional and spiritual prisons that God doesn't want you to be in and/or remain in.

Knowing fully who you are in Christ Jesus (which is simply understanding our New Covenant rights with God) will make you much more "fully armed and dangerous" in the Army of our Lord and Savior, whose precious name is Jesus Christ. It will also hinder Satan greatly from messing with your mind (which primarily addresses thoughts in your mind, though emotions are also an integral part of it), because your mind is the primary battle ground where peace and joy in your relationship with God is gained ... or lost.

Now then ... If you have decided to believe that God paid full penalty for your sins by dying on the cross - taking full punishment for your sins so that your sins are forgiven forever and will not be held against you on the Judgment Day ... do you KNOW that God the Father says "You are NOW the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus"?

Check out this valuable link to have the above truth reinforced:  You Are Already Accepted In Christ

Follower of Jesus Christ, that is NO small, insignificant matter! As a matter of fact, it is a fact of HUGE importance! What this fully implies is that in one moment in time, when Christ rose from the dead and ascended back into glory, as a believer in Him, God the Father declared you as legally holy and righteous as you can possibly ever BE! You are NOW 100% justified to receive forgiveness for sins, and to start receiving eternal life from God. This is your New Covenant promise from God.

(Which NOW means you're to keep diligently striving to live UP to it - because you STILL have your fallen sin-nature that wants its way! The only difference is NOW you have the power of God to help you STOP sinning ... and sin does have its consequences to various degrees in this life; ask any Christian spending time in prison for one or more crimes they were truly guilty of. Though God has forgiven them of those crimes and they won't be - aren't now - held against them by Him, the LAW here on earth says: "Pay up for them!").

Back to the main point. And how did it come about that you became "The righteousness of God in Christ Jesus?"

For He (the Father) made Him (Jesus Christ) who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God (the Father) in Him (Jesus Christ). (2 Corinthians 5:21)

Philippians 3:7-9 reinforces 2 Corinthians 5:21: But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. But indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, [not trying to somehow earn it by my own doing - my own efforts - which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith;

The moment we accepted Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior, we were given GOD'S covering (robe) of righteousness! It is GOD'S righteousness given to us free of charge, because it is IMPOSSIBLE for any human being to EARN any degree of righteousness -- any degree of holiness -- that will be acceptable to God on the Judgment Day that will qualify a person to remain with God for eternity. (The greatest insight we can glean from this parable about the Marriage Supper of the Lamb is that a person who does NOT have Christ's rob of righteousness (the appropriate wedding garments) is NOT allowed to be there!:  The Parable of the Wedding Banquet ( Matthew 22:1-14 New International Version (NIV)

Simply stated, no person can become "good enough" to be declared "Fully justified" in God's sight by their own efforts.  It's impossible.

That bears repeating, but I'll say it a little differently. The only way God will allow anyone to remain with Him in heaven for eternity is for a person to be as holy and as righteous as He is. But God knew that would be impossible to happen, because no person was/is capable of being that holy and that righteous by their own doing. There was only one other way for a person to be holy enough and righteous enough to meet God's demands, and that was for God to simply GIVE freely His holiness and His righteousness away. And how would He be able to do that? He would have to leave heaven, go to earth, live like a human being, be tempted to sin like everyone else is tempted to sin, but yet never sin. In never sinning, that would qualify Him to be the PERFECT sacrifice - the PERFECT ransom payment - God the Father would find acceptable for the sins of every human being.

Thus the death of Jesus Christ not only put our punishment on God for our sins ... it ALSO legally became the means for sinners to receive God's RIGHTEOUSNESS (JUSTIFICATION), because without having God's RIGHTEOUSNESS, forgiven sinners would STILL not be qualified to be in the full glorious presence of God, because God decreed long ago that to be in His full glorious presence for eternity, a being had to be as holy and as righteous as HE is

I hope you NOW understand better why it is such a BIG DEAL being "The righteousness (justification) of God in Christ Jesus". This is not only your qualifying factor to be with a holy God for eternity ... it is ALSO a crucial part of your very identity! And WHO made it all possible? Christ in you, your hope of glory!  - Colossians 1:27

(An important sidebar here before moving on:  No Christian can become holy and righteous enough on their own good works to satisfy God's demands - hence God freely imparted to us His holiness; His righteousness, by His sacrifice on the cross. And BECAUSE He gave it to us freely by His death and subsequent resurrection ... we NOW have an obligation to Him to strive diligently to live UP to it!  Thus - God expects us to strive diligently to STOP sinning! True Christians don't stop with just 1 John 1:9. They move forward to 1 John 5:18. No Christian will attain sinless perfection in this life, (though positionally in Christ Christians already ARE as holy and righteous as they can possibly be by God freely imparting it to them the moment they became truly saved!), but God certainly wants us working diligently to try to keep attaining to holiness and righteousness it in this life, which we will be greatly rewarded for not only in this life to various degrees, but more so in eternity).

And what is the secret to walking in victory over sin -- our sinful carnal flesh -- over the attacks of Satan? Recognizing our New Covenant power source. His name is Jesus Christ! Letting Christ live His resurrected power and life through us! Appropriating the power of Jesus Christ in us and letting Christ live His life through us is our daily determination to walk in the Spirit instead of walking in the weakness of our fallen flesh nature. We begin learning HOW to walk in the Spirit by BELIEVING who God says we are in Christ as is written in His Holy New Covenant Word.  Hence - walking by FAITH. God the Holy Spirit will teach us how to walk by faith in God's best for us (expressed in His New Covenant to us), if we make it a top priority in our desire to please and glorify Him. (It can be a life-long process, so don't grow frustrated when you fall short. We ALL do from time to time).

What does this all correlate down to for the average Christian trying to understand spiritual truths? You are BLESSED at all times! Now matter how difficult your trial or trials might be at any given time here on earth ... you ARE blessed ... in Christ Jesus. When you begin to remind yourself of that every day ... every waking moment; in your deepest moments of trial and heartache ... it will start transforming your life like little else WILL!  It can pull you through to keep-on-keeping on when nothing else WILL pull you through! It's a major key to overcoming discouraging trials ... and to often qualify for increased blessing from God.

Where in the New Covenant can we have assurance that we blessed at all times in Christ? Get this dear one and never let the devil steal it away from you!: Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who HAS blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, (Ephesians 1:3)

An important reminder before continuing: The Bible exhorts Christians to "Rejoice Always". Until a Christian gains a good understanding of their position in Christ, it is very difficult sometimes for them to "rejoice" in the midst of their world of pain.

Some Christians have difficulty believing what their position in Christ is, because they don't fully know WHO Jesus Christ really is. Here is an excellent writing on WHO Jesus Christ fully is:  Who REALLY Is Jesus Christ?

(A gentle word of caution before moving forward. For you Christians who have full revelation of who you are in Christ Jesus ... be extremely compassionate to other Christians who have YET to receive this important revelation (and all other revelations of God's truth, for that matter). When a person is suffering, God instructs us to be quick to weep [mourn] with those who weep. We must be very wise in "not smacking others over the head" with our revelation(s) of truth in such a way as to leave them with the impression we could care less that they are hurting. Satan is ever-present in looking for ways to put a "wedge" between brothers and sisters in Christ. Insensitivity to another person's pain is one of the most useful tools Satan has to subtly divide us.)

Ephesians 6:10-18 alerts Christian believers that we are continuously in a battle with demonic forces in the unseen realm, trying to influence our thinking ... which then triggers our actions. Demonic powers constantly are firing poisonous darts of doubts and lies into the minds of disciples of Jesus Christ to keep them weakened, discouraged, joyless, faithless and as ineffective as possible. God says in Ephesians 6:16 that we are to - above all - use our "shield of faith" at all times to protect our thought life (which GREATLY affects our prayer life). Our "shield of faith" is constructed of the promises of God in His Word. The strongest and most effective "shield of faith" is what many call THE CHRISTIAN'S IDENTITY FAITH SHIELD.

Knowing our identity in Jesus Christ is crucially important - a major key - to walking in ever-increasing spiritual victory. You will struggle to one degree or another your entire Christian life if you don't learn and believe WHO God the Father says you are IN Jesus Christ. And who ARE you? Nothing short of "The righteousness of God in Christ Jesus!"

To help you receive greater revelation from the Holy Spirit about the importance of having God's righteousness imputed to us, I would encourage you to take the time to read the following writing:  Judgment Day

Any time a believer is in disagreement with what God says about them from the scriptures below, (there are more promises than what we've listed, by the way) they must quit believing the devil's lies, and start believing what God's Word says about them, which is Truth (Godly FACT!). In so doing, one is waging wise, effective spiritual warfare against the devouring attacks of the devil against them.

1 Peter 5:8-9 alerts Christian believers: "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings (attacks to devour your joy, peace and faith, in one form or another - explanation ours) are experienced by your brotherhood in the world."

Our ongoing, daily confession of what God's WORD says about us to get that truth deeply cemented into our spirit and mind is one of the most vital means of "resisting the devil" God has given Christian believers. If we don't confess the promises of God (His New Covenant promises in WHO we are in Him and the rights He has granted us by being in Him), once we know what they are, it usually means we don't believe them either...which only gives the devil greater influence in our lives.

Remember ... Satan has little influence over the Christian believer when we refuse to believe his lies. But if we do believe his lies, that gives him increased influence over us...giving him an opening to harass (oppress - torment - devour) us in even greater measure.

It is also important to note that if the Christian believer is walking in unconfessed, unrepentant sin, that gives the devil increased influence over them (anger; unforgiveness; bitterness; resentment; envy; backbiting; gossiping; slander; sexual impurities - pornography ... are some of the more common unconfessed sins) ... which can hinder Jesus Christ's protection around them - thereby giving Satan greater opportunity to devour (oppress; torment; depress) them.

An important note regarding the promises listed below. These promises are ONLY given to us because of what Jesus Christ accomplished for us on the cross. We must never think of ourselves as so "wonderful" or so "deserving" that God gave us His promises because we are worthy to receive them. God makes it very clear in scripture that no human is worthy in and of themselves to receive the unfathomable riches He has given us in Christ Jesus. Jesus Christ alone is the only One truly worthy to receive God the Father's eternal blessings, and once we come to agreement and peace with that fact, it makes the eternal salvation Jesus Christ has secured and given us even more priceless! Thus in Christ, we become instantly worthy. Outside of Christ, we remain unworthy.

God forbid that any one of us thinks we deserve this priceless gift of eternal salvation (eternal pardon) and all the blessings (like the glorified bodies God is going to give us that will be much like that of Christ's) that come with it through eternity. We must always remember that what we really deserve is eternal punishment in hell because we are sinners. Yet in God's love and mercy, He provided a way...He provided an escape from eternal damnation. The miracle of the exchanged life (New Covenant promises to us) is our escape. Jesus became our sin ... so we could inherit His righteousness - His holiness - His ability to be obedient to the Father and to the Holy Spirit. Jesus took our punishment at the cross for our sins...so we could be freed from eternal punishment for them.

Arrogance and boasting about our exchanged life (New Covenant promises to us) in Jesus Christ has no place for God's people. As believers in Jesus Christ, you and I are nothing but sinners saved by God's grace. That's the first truth God wants us realizing. But God says we are also something ELSE!  He says that in Jesus Christ, we are also Godly saints who occasionally sin now and then...but one day in eternity will never sin again!

Yet we need to be wise in what we believe about ourselves. We do NOT want to take on some self-imposed "WORM MENTALITY."  Here is an awesome writing that balances out a healthy relationship with God: Stepping Outside Your Expectations

God has given us His promises of our position in Jesus Christ for at least two reasons:

What does God the Father desire that we become? More God-like, in every way. God wills it to happen, but it's not going to happen by our just talking about it, or wishing it to happen. It will only happen as we make Christ-like decisions. That requires action on our part, doesn't it?

Therefore, let the promises from God below be the "ammunition" to fire back at demonic powers firing their poisonous bullets (fiery darts) at you to try to influence your thought life ... using them wisely and appropriately for that reason, and secondly, use them as catalysts in our desire to be more Christ-like:

IN the real Jesus Christ ... not a false Jesus Christ - this is what God the Father says about me. They are promises of His New Covenant rights to us who are in His Son Jesus Christ ...

For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps: "Who committed no sin, nor was guile found in His mouth"; who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously; who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness - by whose stripes you were healed. 1 Peter 2:21-24 (NKJV).

Some in the Body of Christ believe this is referring to physical healing and little or nothing else. WRONG! Where, in the full context of this scripture, is God talking only about physical healing? He's clearly talking about "dying to sins and living for righteousness" and "Christ's atonement and what it all represents in God is what equips them to DO so"! Thus in our modern day English language, we can better understand the intention of the usage of this word "healed" by stating that born again Christians are delivered and empowered (equipped; made whole; made complete) to walk in victory over sin. For anyone trying to tie physical healing into this scripture as the primary application of this scripture passage (which is what some in the Body of Christ are being taught to do, sadly) ... they are highly encouraged to diligently study this writing:  Proper Rules Of Bible Interpretation

This 1 Peter 2:21-24 scripture is primarily addressing the same issues being addressed in Romans Chapter 6: Christians have been DELIVERED and have subsequently been EMPOWERED by the Father, Christ Jesus, and the Holy Spirit inside them to walk in victory over sin in their lives (that followers of God in the Old Testament weren't empowered with prior to the Holy Spirit being poured at at Pentecost).

I realize many of my dear brothers and sisters in Christ will take GREAT issue with what I've said here, but ask yourself this very important question: Is God more concerned about me getting my physical healing than He is my getting serious about gaining victory over areas of sin in my life? The answer should be obvious. Physical sickness will not send me to hell, nor will it cause me to have a loss of rewards. Sin will.

Least anyone get the impression I am against physical healing, or downplaying God's desire to physically heal His people, you can read the following link:  What About Physical Healing & God's Will?

Having said the above, but feel this writing needs attention as well when seeking physical healing: The Prayer Of Faith

As an ending side-note, once I personally began to comprehend the importance of knowing and believing why it is so crucial to know what my identity in Jesus Christ is ... I might be about as miserable as I've ever been at the time, but when people ask me how I am, simply as a friendly greeting usually, my very first response to them now is, "Blessed in Jesus!"  In the flesh, I may be having a very bad day here on planet Earth...yet I force my mind to remind myself that because of WHO God says I AM in Christ ... I am only confessing what GOD says about me, rather than what my miserable circumstances from the past, or the present are trying to coerce me to believe. For the most part, I simply am waging effective spiritual warfare when I say that, and diligently purposing to "take every thought captive to the obedience of the Spirit of Jesus Christ," which is what scripture admonishes believers to DO. (See: 2 Cor. 10:5).

Sometimes people are taken back by that, because it's not the world's way of answering them, but it preaches a very LOUD MESSAGE to the demons lurking in the unseen background, and it conveys a crucially important truth to other Christians: Norm Rasmussen is fully aware of the importance of constantly reminding myself of WHO I AM IN JESUS CHRIST. I can't possibly recount the number of times when I've been under major demonic attack, yet as soon as I make that confession, oppression lifts off of me. Try it for yourself, be persistent, and monitor the results. You'll find it pays huge dividends!

For people who are under continuous mental oppression of various sorts, I would strongly encourage you to consider starting your day by thanking God, OUT LOUD, (so demons can hear) of who God's Word says you are in Christ. The more you repetitiously speak out loud WHO YOUR ARE IN CHRIST, the more you'll begin to BELIEVE it. Some people simply have a very difficult time breaking through to begin believing the promises of God of WHO THEY ARE IN CHRIST, and the more they confess those promises out loud, the quicker the Holy Spirit will help them begin BELIEVING it, and as that takes place, demons will then go look for another victim...knowing they no longer have the opportunity they once had in keeping you spiritually and mentally ensnared.

You may want to be aware that this page is what I call "a work in progress." From time to time, changes may very well be made in hopes of making it more effective. If you feel that the wording on this page is untrue, misleading, or could be expressed in a more understandable way, I encourage you to write me and let me know. I can't promise I'll respond back, but I will certainly pray about any positive and/or constructive suggestions you may make. Learning all we clearly can about our identity in Christ will only benefit all Christians. Thank you.
