DISTRICT PANCHAYAT OFFICE

a) PROFILE

This is Panchayat Raj Department called as Collector (Panchayat Wing). In this Department District Panchayat Raj Officer is direct subordinates to District Collector and they exercise their duties as per the Rules provided in the Bihar Panchayat Raj Act, 2006. The entire Gram Panchayat administration is under control and supervision of the District Panchayat Officer. In Nalanda District there are 3105 Wards, 231 Gram Panchayats, 20 Intermediate(Block) Panchayat covering three (3) Sub-Divisions namely Biharsharif, Hilsa & Rajgir.

Important Functions of Gram Panchayats:

In pursuance of the provisions made in the 73rd Constitution (Amendment) Act, 1992, the Bihar Panchayat Raj Act, 2006, some of the main function of Gram panchayat is:

1. Construction and maintenance of water works for supply of protected water for drinking purpose,

2. Construction and maintenance of drains for disposal of drainage water and maintaining good sanitary conditions in the village,

3. Lightening of public roads and public places,

4. Construction and maintenance of all Gram Panchayat public roads, bridges, culverts etc.
