My Game Design Role
As a Game Designer on this project, my primary responsibility was to ensure a seamless adaptation of the beloved comic into an interactive game. While the project encountered challenges that impacted its initial goals, it became an invaluable learning experience for me, allowing me to refine my design skills and problem-solving approach. Key contributions included:
Story-to-Game Adaptation: Collaborated closely with the team to translate the comic’s narrative into an engaging visual novel format, striving to maintain the essence of the characters and story.
Mechanics Development: Conceptualized and implemented the Dress-Up mechanic, providing players with an opportunity to personalize characters’ appearances. Developed the rules governing how the mechanic worked, ensuring it was intuitive and fun for players.
Point Balancing: Managed the game’s internal points system, designing mechanics that rewarded players appropriately and influenced their interactions with characters.
UX Design: Assisted in creating a user-friendly interface and experience, ensuring players could easily navigate the game’s features and mechanics.
Although the game faced challenges during its development, it served as a pivotal project in my growth as a designer. I gained hands-on experience in:
Balancing creative vision with technical and logistical constraints.
Designing mechanics that enhance player engagement without overshadowing the narrative.
Understanding the intricacies of adapting existing IPs into a new medium.
Working on Virgo and the Sparklings: Rhythm of My Life deepened my appreciation for collaborative creativity and the value of perseverance in the face of development hurdles.
