I am a Professor, at the Department of Economics, University of Kalyani. I hold a Ph.D. from the University of Calcutta and did my post-doctoral research at Virginia Polytechnic and State University (Virginia Tech), USA.
I am drawn to questions that sit at the crossroads of public policy, gender, and the environment-asking how institutions and interventions shape the lives of women, households, and communities under conditions of ecological and social stress. From the floodplains of the Sundarbans to sanitation and nutrition policy in rural India, my research engages with the real challenges facing developing societies. My research has been funded by national agencies including the UGC, ICSSR, and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of Mizoram, as well as international organisations such as SANDEE (South Asian Network for Development and Environmental Economics) .
My work has been published in leading international journals including Ecological Economics, Economics of Education Review, Economics & Human Biology,Review of Development Economics and Journal of Environmental Planning and Management
