Experienced with a demonstrated history of working in research institute of repute has a degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Economics from the Jadavpur University. The title of his thesis is An Inquiry into Allocation of Fixed Capital and Working Capital. Prof. Pranab Kumar Das had served various academic positions at the Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Calcutta since 1992 and finally retired as Professor of Economics in July 2025. His area of teaching and research is banking and finance in macroeconomic models , in theory and empirical application. Had published in international journals, such as Journal of Banking and Finance, International Review of Economics and Finance, Research in International Business and Finance, Economic Modelling, Current Science: Math Finance Special Issue, Physica A and national level journals such as Indian Economic Journal, Economic and Political Weekly. In addition published in edited books, published by Oxford, Macmillan. He himself had edited a book which was published by Orient Blackswan. He has experience of teaching and research in reputed foreign universities, like Essex Business School, Essex University, Institute of Social Studies, The Hague, Visiting Professor, nominated by Higher Education Deptt of France under EHESS at Paris, University of East Anglia. He taught a 20 hour course in time series statistics at RBI Mumbai for the Research Deptt Officers. Dr. Das had coordinated a short term course on Financial Economics from 2003 to 2008. He had attended and presented papers at International Conferences in WIDER, United Nations University, Helsinki; Reading University, UK; Beijing, China, Hong Kong; Singapore; Copenhagen Business School, Denmark: Kampala, Uganda in Africa; CEDES, Buenos Aires, Argentina and in many places across India. Dr. Das has received research Grant's from CEDES ,Argentina and IDRC, Canada, DFID, UK, IDBI, Ministry of Minority Affairs and Ministry of Urban Affairs, GoI and UNDP, Calcutta Stock Exchange, ISRO, GoI.
Worked as Country Expert for World Bank and MoF, GoI project on fiscal modelling for India during 2019-20.
Prof. Das is currently a Co-Principal Investigator in China's Digital Silk Road and Chip Based Politics: A Critical Analytical Study from the Indo-Taiwanese Perspective, an ICSSR-NSTC sponsored project.
