How We Research
We compare products from their published specs and features; the verdicts below are our independent editorial opinions.
If you want a no-battery, plug-and-play pair of wired headphones for a younger kid who mostly listens at a tablet or school laptop, choose POWMEE P20; if you need wireless freedom, long battery life, a built-in mic for calls and class, and a sturdier folding frame for an older child or teen, choose LORELEI B-E5.
• POWMEE P20 – biggest strength: Fully wired 3.5mm design with a 94dB volume limit, a nylon-braided 4.2 ft cord, swiveling ear cups and soft oval over-ear pads — nothing to charge, nothing to pair.
• POWMEE P20 – biggest trade-off: No microphone, no remote and no volume control on the headset itself, so calls and volume changes happen on the device you plug into.
• LORELEI B-E5 – biggest strength: Bluetooth 5.4 wireless with a claimed 40-hour battery, a built-in mic, a foldable metal-and-leather frame and a 3.5mm backup cable in the box.
• LORELEI B-E5 – biggest trade-off: On-ear cushions rather than full over-ear coverage and no active noise control, so isolation is modest and you have to remember to charge it.
• Who each pick is for: POWMEE P20 suits younger kids and households that want zero setup and zero charging. LORELEI B-E5 suits tweens, teens and school-age kids who move between devices and want wireless.
The POWMEE P20 is a wired over-ear headphone built around one idea: keep it simple and keep it safe. The 94dB volume limit is the headline feature here, and it's the reason this set makes sense for a child who is still learning how to use headphones without cranking them. There's no battery, no pairing, no app, no firmware — you push the 3.5mm plug into a tablet, a Kindle Fire, a Chromebook, a laptop or a car DVD player and it works. That's it.
The physical design is clearly aimed at small heads. The headband adjusts, the whole thing weighs in at roughly 0.22 kg, and the ear cups swivel a full 90 degrees so they fold flat into a bag or suitcase. The oval pads are soft and sized to sit fully around the ear rather than pressing on it, which matters on a long car ride or a full school day. The cable is nylon braided at 4.2 feet, which is a genuinely practical detail — braided cords survive being yanked out of a tablet far better than thin rubber ones.
Where I'd steer you away from it: if your kid needs to talk. There is no microphone, no remote and no inline volume control on this headset. You can still speak into the mic on whatever device it's plugged into, and the person on the other end will hear you through that device, but the headset itself adds nothing. For a teen doing video calls, that's a real limitation. Also worth knowing: newer iPhones and recent iPad Pro models need a Lightning-to-3.5mm adapter, which isn't included. Buy this for the 2-to-8 crowd and for parents who don't want to think about charging anything.
The LORELEI B-E5 is the opposite philosophy — it's a wireless on-ear headphone that happens to also work wired. Bluetooth 5.4 handles the connection, and the claimed 40-hour battery life is the number that changes daily life: a kid can use it for a week of school and music without you hunting for a cable every night. The stated Bluetooth range is up to 30 meters, which is generous enough to leave the tablet on the kitchen counter and walk around the house.
The build is where this one earns its keep for older kids. The headband is a metal steel bow wrapped in soft leather, with pull-resistant metal parts at the joints, and the whole thing folds down to roughly 15cm x 9cm x 13cm. That's a genuinely pocketable-in-a-backpack size. The multi-level adjustable headband means it grows with a child, and the frame is designed to survive being twisted and stretched — which is exactly what happens to headphones that live at the bottom of a school bag.
Audio is handled by a 40mm dynamic driver with a 20Hz–20,000Hz range and 110dB sensitivity, so it gets loud easily on modest power — worth knowing if you're handing it to a younger child. The built-in mic is the feature the POWMEE simply doesn't have, and it's the reason this is the better pick for online classes, video calls and anything where the child needs to be heard. Two honest caveats: these are on-ear, not over-ear, so the cushions rest on the ear instead of surrounding it, and there's no active noise cancellation. Isolation comes from the physical fit alone. In the box you get a 3.5mm braided cable and a Type-C charging cable, so the wired fallback is there when the battery is flat.
• Best for younger kids (roughly 2–8) → POWMEE P20. The 94dB volume limit and no-charging design fit that age group best.
• Best for tweens and teens → LORELEI B-E5. Wireless, a built-in mic and a metal-reinforced folding frame suit older, more independent users.
• Best for battery-free reliability → POWMEE P20. It never runs out because it never needs charging, and it works the second you plug it in.
• Best for long listening sessions away from an outlet → LORELEI B-E5. The 40-hour claimed playtime covers multiple days of normal use per charge.
• Best for calls, online classes and video chat → LORELEI B-E5. The built-in mic is the deciding factor; the POWMEE has none.
• Best for travel and packing → LORELEI B-E5 on folded size, though the POWMEE's 90-degree swivel cups also flatten nicely in a bag.
• Best for ear comfort over long stretches → POWMEE P20. Its over-ear oval pads surround the ear; the B-E5 rests on it.
• Best for plugging into anything without setup → POWMEE P20. The 3.5mm plug covers tablets, Kindle Fire, Mac, Xbox One, Chromebooks, laptops and car DVD players with no pairing.
If I were buying for my own household, I'd pick based on the child, not the spec sheet. For a younger kid — say under eight — I'd buy the POWMEE P20, because the volume limit and the total absence of charging and pairing make it the lower-stress choice, and the wired connection means it just works every single time. For anyone older who needs to be heard on calls or wants to walk around while listening, I'd buy the LORELEI B-E5 — the built-in mic, Bluetooth 5.4 and the metal-reinforced folding frame are worth the small hassle of remembering to charge it. In my opinion, the B-E5 is the more versatile headphone overall, but the P20 wins outright for the youngest users.
For school-age kids who need to join online classes or answer questions, the LORELEI B-E5 is the better fit because of its built-in microphone. The POWMEE P20 has no mic of its own, so it only works for listening unless the device it's plugged into has its own microphone.
Do the LORELEI B-E5 headphones work without Bluetooth?
Yes. A 3.5mm braided cable is included, so you can use them wired when the battery is empty or when Bluetooth isn't allowed. Note that the B-E5 itself has no 3.5mm jack listed as a built-in port — the wired option comes through the supplied cable.
It works with any device that has a 3.5mm jack, including older iPhones, iPads, Macs, Chromebooks, Kindles and game consoles. For iPhone 7 and newer and 2020 iPad Pro 11 and 12.9 models, you'll need a Lightning-to-3.5mm adapter, which isn't included.
The POWMEE P20 uses over-ear oval pads that surround the ear, which physically blocks more outside sound. The LORELEI B-E5 is on-ear with no active noise cancellation, so it isolates less — its strength is wireless convenience and battery life, not blocking noise.
Both fold for travel. The LORELEI B-E5 packs smaller when folded and runs wireless for up to 40 hours, while the POWMEE P20 needs no charging at all — useful if you'd rather not depend on a battery mid-trip. Check the current price on Amazon before you decide which trade-off you prefer.
