Call for abstracts (closed)
The call for abstracts has been closed. The decision on acceptance or rejection of the abstract will be communicated in May 2023.
The Programme Committee invites abstracts for individual oral presentations and poster presentations, next to the possibility to organise complete thematic sessions of 5 invited presentations.
All submissions are welcome that address the theme(s) of the conference. This includes submissions that report about scientific research in peatlands, address management issues on conservation and/or restoration of peatlands and their services, address national and international policies that are relevant to peatlands, or explore ways of communication about peatlands with broad audiences.
Abstracts will be reviewed by the Programme Committee using the criteria described below.
How to submit
All abstracts for individual contributions must be submitted by clicking the 'Submit abstract' button. Deadline for submission is 17 April 2023. Abstracts sent by email will not be considered.
Proposals for complete sessions with an abstract of their suggested content must be submitted through a separate online form Deadline for submission is 17 April 2023. Suggestions for contributors may be included but these contributions themselves must be submitted through the online system.
Preference for an oral or poster presentation
When you submit your abstract through the online system, you will have the option to select your preference for an oral talk (15 min.), a short oral presentation (5 min.) or a poster presentation. Among the abstracts that have indicated a preference for an oral presentation or a short presentation, the Programme Committee will schedule as many as space allows but due to space limitations for oral sessions, it is likely some submitters will be scheduled to give a poster presentation. All accepted abstracts that prefer a poster will be scheduled as a poster.
Posters: There will be one or two poster sessions during the conference and poster authors will be expected to be available to discuss/answer questions about their research during the poster session. Poster sessions are the last scientific session each day to give presenters an opportunity for extended discussion and networking. There are no other scientific sessions that are scheduled concurrently with posters.
Oral presentations: Speakers will each have 15 minutes for their presentations (10-12 minutes for their talk and 3-5 minutes for questions). Individually submitted contributions will be scheduled in a session with similar themes.
Short oral presentations: These talks are limited to 5 minutes and no more than 7 slides are allowed. Several short presentations will be presented in row, and then there will be a general question-and-answer period at the end.
Oral presentations will be scheduled in sessions in 90-minute timeslots on Tuesday and Wednesday. The sessions will run parallel with other sessions scheduled at the same time, including invited paper sessions and workshops.
Abstract guidelines
The language of the conference is English. Therefore, only English abstracts are accepted. Abstracts that do not meet this requirement will be rejected.
The abstract should contain the following elements: title, contributing authors with their affiliations and email addresses, body part with content
The body of the abstract may be up to 400 words maximum.
The abstract should not contain any headings.
A presenting author should be indicated who will receive all communications, including acceptance and scheduling notifications.
One presentation per author
To distribute the available time and space as fair as possible each person is allowed to submit only one abstract where he/she is listed as presenting author. This rule does not apply to co-authors, i.e. a person can be co-author in more than one contribution.
Evaluation process and criteria
Each submitted abstract will be peer-reviewed and rated by the Programme Committee. All abstracts will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
Content, with emphasis on new results and developments, novel perspectives, and innovative or interdisciplinary approaches
Clear relevance to the conference themes
Broad applicability for peatland professionals working in a variety of contexts or geographical locations
Submission of a complete and compelling abstract in the English language
The decision on acceptance or rejection of the abstract will be communicated in May 2023.
