So for this month’s page, I will teach you how to make one of these hologram boxes! I will also leave the video link at the end of the instructions of the original box for those who also want a visual representation of how to make it. I hope you enjoy it and most importantly, have fun!

Have you ever wanted to make a hologram but didn’t have enough money? Or maybe you just didn’t know how? When I was younger, I always used to look at videos of holograms who would dance and who would be shown as tech presentations. One thing they all had in common, however, was that they were all huge and required lots of money to pull off. For example, Michael Jackson’s concert. They used holograms to put him onto the stage as he was dead and they needed a way to make him appear.
Another example would be vocaloids such as Hastune Miku. Since she wasn’t actually real they used a large hologram to cast her on the stage. When I saw this, I then searched on how to make holograms myself without having to actually buy things until one day, I came across a Youtube video explaining how to make one. With that information, I started my hologram making journey and made an adapted version of it and ultimately succeeded.
One cardboard box
Clear Glass or CD/DVD case
Tape
Scissors
Marker/pen/pencil
1. Take the clear glass CD/DVD case and put it in the cardboard box leaning back
towards the back of the box
2. Use your marker to mark the cutoff of the glass/case
3. Cut the box at the mark
4. Take the cutoff and put it back with the other half of the box until glass/case has two
walls holding it in place
5. Cutoff any hanging pieces from the end
6. With the tape, tape the bottom and back of the box to secure the structure in
place
7. Cut off the top of the box to make an opening (This is where the device will go)
8. Use a flat piece of cardboard to make an outline of your device (make sure the
outline is slightly smaller than the device for support.
9. Cut out the outline of your device making sure not to cut anywhere else as the
rest of the cardboard will be used to support the device
10.Put the device resting piece on the box and the device on top of it with the screen
facing the inside
11. Finally, find a hologram video to play (Most functional hologram videos will have
a black screen as the background)
Once those steps are done just sit back and watch as the tiny hologram figures come into the box! To know if it’s functioning correctly almost nothing should be seen in the background except for your hologram character and the hologram should be in the box. I hope this D.I.Y was helpful! Thank you and have a great day!
