If it is the house consumer unit that is tripping I would expect the fault is before the RCD in the caravan. Alternatively, you have the power supply plugged into a lower rated house circuit than the caravan RCD. Check this first.

For a diy'er the options are limited, but a possible way forward would be to unplug the caravan from all mains, and check the resistance between liveearth and neutralearth on the end of the hook up cable furthest away from the van. At risk of repeating myself (for safety's sake), you do this with the hook up disconnected. A cheap multimeter will tell you if there is a serious short, but an insulation breakdown tester (aka "megger") would be the tool of choice, but probably not easily obtained (and also needs care to be taken). With an inexpensive (eg Argos) multimeter, on its highest resistance (ohms) range, you should be getting several MOhms between earth (biggest round pin) and everything else. . Obviously you can repeat this check a few times with different appliance/breaker combinations turned on in the van. As most domestic RCD's trip at about 30 milli Amps, you need to have a resistance of (approx) 10 K Ohms or greater or you will get an instant RCD trip. Hopefully, you will find some appliance/breaker combination which has a resistance greater than 10 k (as you suggest the van has been powered up all day with no trips), but less than the ideal "several Megs".
