I have created a dashboard on Power BI desktop, without realising that there is second version of Power BI RS for creating dashboards for an on-premise Power BI server. I have failed to upload my dashboard either as a .PBIX nor as a template .PBIT to our on-premise Power BI server. Is there any way to convert/import/migrate my work (nearly 20 hours effort) into the on-premise Power BI server without having to re-create everything again?

We've split the on-premises data gateway docs into content that's specific to Power BI and general content that applies to all services that the gateway supports. You're currently in the Power BI content. To provide feedback on this article, or the overall gateway docs experience, scroll to the bottom of the article.

The on-premises data gateway acts as a bridge to provide quick and secure data transfer between on-premises data (data that isn't in the cloud) and several Microsoft cloud services. These cloud services include Power BI, PowerApps, Power Automate, Azure Analysis Services, and Azure Logic Apps. By using a gateway, organizations can keep databases and other data sources on their on-premises networks, yet securely use that on-premises data in cloud services.

On-premises data gateway: Allows multiple users to connect to multiple on-premises data sources. With a single gateway installation, you can use an on-premises data gateway with all supported services. This gateway is well-suited to complex scenarios in which multiple people access multiple data sources.

Power BI Report Server is the on-premises solution for reporting today, with the flexibility to move to the cloud tomorrow. It's included with Power BI Premium so you have the ability to move to the cloud on your terms.

I'm using jira on premsises, can I connect to power bi desktop. One of my colleague suggested to use rest api to connect Jira onpremises to power bi desktop. can any one give me a solution for this. I'm stuck at this situation

Also on the Microsoft Blog read through the comments as there are some additional notes on the on-premises server connection noting that the server needs to use Basic authentication to communicate with power BI over the PowerBI content pack connector.

We are excited to announce the availability of Citrix Autoscale for Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (CVAD) for on-premises customers. Our Autoscale power management solution enables customers to strike the right balance between delivering a great end-user experience and optimizing costs.

We first introduced Citrix Autoscale in the Citrix cloud console in 2019. Citrix Autoscale was built to empower organizations to address scenarios such as user traffic fluctuations resulting from burst scenarios, disaster-recovery planning, seasonality etc. This solution automatically power manages your infrastructure to ensure optimal end user experience and cost efficiency. This feature quickly gained popularity, with over 50% of our customers embracing it. Remarkably, some of our DaaS (Desktop as a Service) customers reported savings of 70% or more in their cloud computing expenses, demonstrating the substantial cost reduction this capability can achieve.

Built on the same code as our highly successful Autoscale for desktops-as-a-service (DaaS) cloud feature, Citrix Autoscale for on-premises seamlessly integrates with your existing Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops infrastructure. Workloads can be in your own data center or at a public cloud provider.

Previously, without using Citrix Autoscale, administrators had to provision resources (desktops and applications) for peak user capacity 24/7 to ensure resources were always available. While this approach ensured an excellent user experience, it came at the expense of keeping resources powered on even during low-demand periods. Additionally, if there was an unexpected spike in demand, administrators had to manually increase resources, which sometimes led to a poor user experience.

In April 2019, Microsoft also released Power BI Report Builder, a new desktop application focused on building paginated reports that can be hosted in the Power BI Service. This is a separate application from Power BI Desktop, and is effectively the SSRS report builder for connecting to Power BI datasets.

This can be confirmed by running the install again, and checking if the account exists while the installer is attempting to start the Power Automate service. The account's profile should be found in the registry here: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\S-1-5-80-3017052307-2994996872-1615411526-3164924635-3391446484

If this registry key doesn't exist, your machine isn't allowing the service user account creation. Note that when Power Automate desktop is not installed it is expected that the key doesn't exist, its existence needs to be checked during installation.

There is a workaround that requires providing a Windows user account that will run the service instead of the default account. This account will need to be a member of the remote desktop user group, and will need to have the "Logon as a service" privilege.

You can run the installer and skip starting the power automate service by running it from the command line and passing it the /SKIPSTARTINGPOWERAUTOMATESERVICE argument

Currently, our SafetyCulture connector for Power BI Desktop is a custom connector, meaning data refresh can only be performed manually. Setting up on-premises gateways allows you to schedule data refresh for your Power BI connections, giving you the confidence that your iAuditor data will always be up-to-date when you use Power BI.

If your organization uses Power BI extensively, you may want to check with your IT team to see if an on-premises data gateway is already installed. If that's the case, skip to section "2. Connect iAuditor to your Power BI".

On the same device as your on-premises data gateway, navigate to the "Power BI Desktop" folder in your "Documents" directory. If the folder doesn't exist, create a new folder and name it "Power BI Desktop".

Hi I have been reading about data gateways and automatic refreshing of data sets for both PowerBI desktop files as well as PowerBI Service. I understand the majority of what is being provided however I am still slightly unsure of things.

If I have an ODBC connection to an SQL database stored on premise (in my organisation) and create a set of reports in PowerBI desktop and push these reports into an app space/ work space in PowerBI Service, what is the preferred method of being able to automatically refresh data in the desktop and service version. I understand refreshing purely from the service will just query the desktop file which if that has not been refreshed then it is pointless. But I do not want to have to refresh and upload every report everyday.

Thanks Sam now I am following and understand. That was the part I was unsure of, does the gateway skip updating the desktop version and just keeps updated the PowerBI service reports that are online. I understand it better now thanks.

As I have already mentioned, the Power BI Data Gateway is a kind of bridge between the on-premises data sources and the Power BI service available on the cloud. The gateway is a windows application that has to be installed on the same network as the other data sources are in. If you see the figure below, there are multiple steps that take place while querying through the data gateway. As you can see, there is also a clear distinction in the architecture between the cloud services and the on-premise data sources.

In this article, we have seen how to set up Power BI Data Gateway and configure the same in the Power BI Service. Data Gateway is essential if there are data sources that are available on-premises and not on the cloud. This data gateway acts as the bridge between the Power BI Cloud Service and the on-premise data sources through a secured network.

In order to execute the installation and configuration of the on-premise data gateway software, user must need to hold a valid Power BI license that enables the usage of Power Bi Desktop application and publication of dashboards to Power BI cloud. For more information about Power BI license, user must contact a Microsoft representative.

I am trying to connect Power BI Desktop with Business Central On-premise. But not able to configure or connect as only Basic Auth is available for connection anyone can please confirm what should I do to configure the connection between BC on-premise and Power BI.

Sometimes when using Power BI, you need to access fresh on-premises data. In this course, Leveraging Timely On-premises Data with Power BI, you'll learn how to implement and configure a data gateway. First, you'll discover what data gateways are. Next, you'll explore how to install and configure them. Finally, you'll learn alternate query modes for faster refreshes. When you're finished with this course, you'll have the knowledge to tie your Power BI reports to your on-premises data. Software required: Power BI Desktop.

I follow On Promise method. I have no issue when debugging in postman with a VPN connection and I am able to get the result. But when I run it from power automate with or without a VPN connection, it gives me this error:

This article will go over some of the significant differences between on-premise and cloud Power BI deployments, as well as some key takeaways to note. It will also go over some important considerations while choosing between the two options.

The Power BI Report Server, like Microsoft SQL Server Report Server, can host.rdl (SSRS) and.pbix (Power BI) reports. It keeps Power BI reports and data within the limits of the local domain network, eliminating the need for a gateway while giving access to both on-premise and cloud-sourced data. In a nutshell, the Power BI SaaS can do everything the Power BI Report Server can.

When it comes to High Availability, we previously could cluster On-premises data gateways to allow for load distribution across a set of nodes. We have a similar construct in Power Automate Desktop machine connectivity using Machine groups. More information about that in an upcoming post.
