SHAFIK RADWAN (1941—present)


Radwan is a painter born in Nadj, Gaza in 1941. After the destruction of his village in 1948, he completed his studies in Cairo and Moscow. Later, he worked as the director of Fine Arts for the Palestinian Ministry of Culture and the Dean of Fine Arts at the Al-Aqsa university in Gaza. Here, an abstract mass of armed fighters huddle around an olive branch, set against a bright, olive green backdrop. In light of the poster’s title and date of publishing, The Revolution captures a historic moment of hope and unity around the time of the Naksah (Six Day War) led by Abdel Nasser. Nasser was an Egyptian revolutionary and popular figure of Pan-Arab struggle, uniting resistance across Egypt, Palestine, Syria.
