The Palestinian Revolution Lives, 1978
BURHAN KARKOUTLY (1932-2003)
Translated: “The Palestinian Revolution Lives”
Syrian artist Burhan Karkoutly collaborated closely with the PLO and played a pivotal role as a founding member of the Palestinian Artist Federation in Beirut. Throughout his career, Karkoutly passionately dedicated much of his artwork to the Palestinian cause, portraying vivid symbols of the Arab people, including workers, freedom fighters, women, and children.
In "The Palestinian Revolution Lives," Karkoutly's artistic prowess shines through as he depicts an armed Palestinian woman proudly adorned in traditional attire, wearing a map necklace and a traditional headpiece. Behind her, a beautiful scene unfolds, portraying three women, an urban landscape, and soaring birds. Karkoutly's unique style is distinguished by its beauty and boldness as he skillfully weaves together intricate details to express Palestinain revolution and return.
In striking contrast, the text boldly proclaims "Palestine Lives" in English, while beneath it, the Arabic inscription reads "The Palestinian Revolution Lives," encapsulating the resilience and vitality of the Palestinian struggle.
