In the South We are Steadfast, Lebanon, 1985
UNKNOWN ARTIST
Made by an anonymous artist, In the South is a vividly illustrated representation of Lebanese steadfast resistance to the Zionist assault and occupation in the South. After the Lebanon War in 1985, the IOF had retreated from Beirut and North Lebanon but remained in the south. Following 1985, these occupied areas became the site of fierce resistance. In green, the image features a village nestled into the hills of South Lebanon. An enormous bloodied hand grasps firmly to the earth. The artist centers a collective attachment to the land which is resilient in the face of violent occupation.Â
