Land Day Monument, 1980
ABED ABDI (1942-Present)
Translated: “Here we stay / The fourth anniversary of the glorious land day”
Abed Abdi, a graphic artist and illustrator born in Haifa, returned to his hometown in 1952 after living in exile in Lebanon and Syria. Abdi, who lived and worked as a chief art director during the occupation, frequently made works depicting images of motherland, refugees, exile, and struggle. All of the elements shown in the Land Day Monument poster are there, including a man wearing a kuffiya clutching his fist on a barbed wire to reveal a family standing atop a hill. The Defense of Arab Lands published this poster, with the bottom text reading: "The fourth anniversary of the glorious land day.”
