NABIL ANANI (1943-Present)


Nabil Anani, born in 1943 in Latroun, Palestine, is an essential figure in the current Palestinian art movement. He studied Fine Art at Alexandria University in 1969 before returning to Palestine to work as an artist and art instructor. Anani's numerous talents include painting, ceramics, and sculpture, where he creatively uses local materials like as leather, henna, and wood, resulting in an extraordinary body of work spanning four decades. Recognized internationally, he co-authored books on Palestinian arts, received numerous awards, including the first Palestinian National Prize for Visual Art in 1997, and was instrumental in establishing the League of Palestinian Artists and the International Academy of Fine Art in Palestine. He lives and works in Ramallah.


Harvesting - Sewing - Reading - Resisting depicts a beautiful village of women and children surrounding the Palestinian flag, with a barbed wire fence and a metropolitan setting in the background. While their backs are turned to the barbed wire, they focus on each other and engage in various types of return, such as harvesting, sewing, reading, and resisting.
