I am just molten. Would love nothing more than to storm in there and verbally abuse someone. However. It is Friday evening. And I really SHOULD have relevant legal ammunition before I go all . . . umm . . . postal on them Monday.

Even when brick-and-mortar facilities are closed, some post office services are available online 24/7, including on holidays. With a USPS.com account, you can order stamps, print shipping labels, order boxes and other mail supplies, and request package pickups.

There is always the possibility that it isn't being returned and is still at the post office. I had one that the post office swore they "returned to sender" but I never received it. After numerous phone calls by both me and the buyer, the package was found sitting at the post office. It had been there 4 full months.

Etsy's PPP is actually buyer protection, not seller protection. Etsy may cover the refund on their $$, or Etsy may choose to make you pay for it. If Etsy refunds, it will be the entire amount, including shipping. Sellers also get dinged from having disputes filed against them. Too many, and there are various repercussions. And no one but Etsy knows how many is too many. The ratio level is not disclosed.

Honestly signed for unless the item is very expensive (my limit is $100+) is a nuisance for most buyers. Unless you informed the buyer that they had to be present to sign for the item, I would consider refunding all a good will gesture. Buyers many times have to make arrangements which does not work for many. Post offices are not always easily accessible and not all post offices will answer the phone.

Wait until you get the item back, then refund the item but not the postage. It is the buyer's responsibility to pick up his mail in a timely manner. The post office usually sends them 3 notices before they send it back to you.

My local post office printed out the internal documents, and I showed them where there was never any second delivery attempt logged, and it was also shipped back on the 10th day, instead of the 15th day.

Just 2 weeks ago we were hit with a huge snowstorm. My post office decided they couldn't deliver and held the package for pick-up and never bothered to notify me. I knew only because I'd checked tracking.

If the buyer still wants, can you take to your post office and ask them to resend the package noting that the address is correct. USPS will do this as long as the package is not open. Don't know about Canada.

Anything I use signed for which is rare, I keep track and notify the buyer when the item is in their town so they can make arrangements. I also get their okay to use signed for so they know it will happen.

The last few times that I went to the post office and shipped by Tracked packet, the clerk asked me if the parcel could not be delivered, was I willing to pay for the return shipping to get it back, or did I prefer to "abandon" the parcel? The clerk noted my preference on their computer screen.

If the OP bought their shipping labels online, they wouldn't of been asked that, but if a return shipping fee is charged, they would have to pay it before the post officd would let them have the parcel.

There was a similar scenerio in the forum yesterday and a lot of people responding said that adding the signature requirement could be an issue for them (as buyers) - depending on how far they have to travel to the post office. I can certainly understand that you want to protect the expensive items you send, but it might be a good idea to make it clear that you require signature confirmation of delivery - so that your buyer can decide before they purchase. Maybe through a variation selection or as information in one of your listing images.

Or communicate with the buyer BEFORE shipping, so they are aware, and they have said they will be able to pick up the parcel at their local post office, if a delivery attempt is made when they are not home.

@VogueVixens That must be convenient! Our local post office closes at 4:30 and is only open 2 hours on Saturday. The next town over, they only have 1 full-time employee and the post office has extremely limited hours, including being closed for 1.5 hours during lunch.

I have the advantage of living in a city. Plus for many years in Canada, Canada Post has been selling contracts to Grocery stores, pharmacies, and convenience stores to have a Post office set up inside their businesses.

These are not staffed by unionized Postal workers, the staff is provided by the business. The hours of these post offices are close to the same as the businesses. So if the business is open until 10pm, the post office area will close at 7, 8, or 9 pm....will be open on Saturdays and sometimes Sundays.

In rural areas, the Canada Post offices usually have shorter hours, limited days open. There are some locations owned by Canada Post corporation, and run by their unionized staff. There are also contracted post offices in small businesses in areas with low population density, where CP does not want to set up/staff their own post offices.

More than 200 post offices and other U.S. Postal Service facilities are set to shed some of their operations as soon as this year as the mailing agency seeks to consolidate those functions at larger buildings, according to documents shared by management.

The changes will mean letter carriers no longer go to their local facility to pick up mail for their route, instead traveling farther distances after starting at a consolidated location. The impacted post offices will still conduct their retail operations, but many of the back-end functions will be stripped away and relocated. They are connected to an initial 10 buildings that USPS previously announced it was standing up in previously closed facilities, as well as an additional 11 centers.

Employee groups have criticized postal management for failing to detail the impact of the changes on the workforce. Letter carriers will have to travel to new locations to start their routes, clerks will have to relocate to new facilities and some postmasters could be out of a job or forced to find a new one. Overall, USPS said the plans will add between 5% and 10% new routes, meaning more letter carriers would be required. The Postal Service expects to add as many as 124 city routes and 78 rural routes just as part of the initial 10-facility pilot.

The Postal Service has said the new centers will improve the working environment for employees, reduce time and cost for transportation facilities and allow for more efficient delivery routes. Earlier this month, Dave Partenheimer, a postal spokesman, said the changes would allow USPS to purchase a greater share of electric vehicles as it overhauls its dated fleet, but did not specify the direct impact on employees.

Edmund Carley, president United Postmasters and Managers of America, previously told Government Executive that his members expressed outrage over the plan, as post offices that have only retail offerings and not back-end mail processing typically do not have a postmaster on site. Those supervisors are now worried they will be out of a job.

DeJoy has highlighted the consolidated delivery plan as a key tenet of his 10-year plan for USPS to break even, saying it will standardize operations, lower costs and improve working conditions for employees. In a recent meeting of the postal board of governors, DeJoy implored stakeholders not to stand in the way of his reforms, saying his efforts were both common-sense and urgent.

The changes mean an increased time-in-transit for mail traveling long distances, such as from New York to California. Most first class mail (61%) and periodicals (93%) will be unaffected by the changes. Single-piece first-class mail traveling within the same region will still have a delivery time of two days. 17dc91bb1f
