Too often in the world of educational technology, we become excited about the shiniest new toy. Strategy requires discipline. Whenever we use technology in school, we should be able to define its purpose and its impact. Does it boost engagement? Empowr students? Increase efficiency? Improve communication?
Technology in education should deepen learning and make the learning itself more authentic, more connected to the world. If we want it to go beyond entertaining (or distracting), we must define its WHY.
So, next time you integrate a new tool in your classroom or school, pause and ask yourself: "What is the purpose? What is the impact? How is this benefiting my students and their learning?"
