The goal of this project was to design a functioning 3D printer, learn modeling and assembly in SolidWorks, and learn various manufacturing processes.
The full SolidWorks assembly.
Although the majority of the printer is made from off-the-shelf parts, several components were custom made. Most of these pieces were laser-cut from acrylic.
One of the first tests of the working 3D printer. The print was mostly successful, but the belts slipped after the first few layers causing the rest of the print to be offset. I later adjusted the tightness of the linear bearings on the build plate to fix this.
