This formative assessment presents students with a thought-provoking statement and requires them to take a stance—either defending or refuting it—based on the evidence they have gathered throughout the lesson. It offers an opportunity for students to practice synthesizing information from multiple sources while developing their analytical writing skills. 

This optional prototype challenge can be used as an extension activity, early finisher task, or mini-project to reinforce your core SOL objective. Students will design a visual or physical model (artifact) that demonstrates the connection between economic and political freedom. The project emphasizes the Engineering element by showing how one type of freedom influences or supports the other—and what happens when one is limited.
