Swamp Coolers - Portable Air Cooler

A best swamp cooler is a great way to keep cool during the summer months, the coolers are designed for personal use, and are not designed to cool the area where it is placed.

Check out this short video showing a selection of great portable air coolers we have on this site.

An air cooler works by drawing the hot air into the pads, which then runs over the iced water in the wick, this then extracts the heat and returns it as cool, this is called an endothermic reaction.

Portable coolers (also known as swamp coolers) are not very efficient in high humidity areas, they are designed to be effective in low humidity areas and require a window to be open when in use.

The reason for this is during the process it produces humidity, this humidity needs to be removed to the outside of the building via an open window.

A portable air cooler is NOT an air conditioner, a portable cooler provides personal cooling and does not condition the air, think of a evaporative air cooler as an upgrade to an electric fan.

These types of portable devices are not as expensive to buy as a conditioner would be, and can be placed anywhere in the home without having to have external venting fitted.

These evaporative air coolers are very easy to maintain, the average person should have no problems carrying out maintenance on these type of units.

If you live in a hot area with low humidity and looking for an inexpensive way to have great personal cooling, then a portable cooler can be the answer.

There are many manufactures producing coolers these days, which is good news for us the consumer. With a wider choice and more competition in the market means the cost of these units has dropped to a reasonable level, thus making them more affordable for the average family house hold.

Whynter and SPT are among the top manufactures around at the moment of the portable air cooler, both companies produce quality units with a reputation for durability and excellent cooling performance.

The prices from both these companies are also very reasonable and I would say they are in the middle price bracket for air coolers, many people are now turning towards these units instead of a fixed air conditioning system.

The reason being the cost of installation and the actual running cost of a fixed system can be expensive over a period of time, where as the portable versions can be placed anywhere in your home and operate at a fraction of the cost of an air conditioning system.
