Sia Kate Isobelle Furler is one of the most respected, acclaimed and successful singer-songwriters of the 21st century. After a small career in the local Australian scene (as member of the acid jazz band Crisp and as a soloist), Sia released Healing Is Difficult in 2001, a 2-step/R&B record whose lead single, Taken for Granted, found success in the UK but that it failed, just like the album, to make a splash elsewhere due to poor promotion. 2004's folk/electronic album Colour the Small One followed, after a label switch, to a stronger, but still moderate, commercial response and positive reviews. As her popularity in the US increased due to word-of-mouth, she released Some People Have REAL Problems in 2008, a more-upbeat album that got her some more mixed reviews but allow her to debut on multiple global charts for the first time in her career. We Are Born, a retro-inspired album, was released in 2010 to a positive response, however her levels of popularity took a toll on her, and after the album's release she decided to retire from recording and work instead as a songwriter. In 2011 her reference vocals for Titanium were used, against Sia's wishes, by DJ and producer David Guetta for the single release; the song became a global smash hit and soon Sia was surrounded by record deals, which she was forced to look on as she still had an album remaining in her publishing deal; she ultimately choose RCA for what was planned as her last album, in a contract that allow her to promote it (or not) in her own terms. 1000 Forms of Fear was released in 2014 and the breakthrough worldwide success of the well-received electropop album allowed her to establish herself as a viable solo artist and convinced her to not retire. Her success as a songwriter-for-hire allowed her to release This Is Acting, an album almost entirely composed of songs rejected by other acts, in 2016; the album was her largest success yet, doubling the sales of her previous releases, and it received positive reviews. In 2017 she released her holiday album Everyday Is Christmas and Labrinth, Sia & Diplo Present... LSD (a collaborative effort with singer and rapper Labrinth and producer Diplo) in 2019, both released got mixed reviews and performed moderately at the charts. She released her directorial film debut, Music, alongside its accompanying soundtrack, to overwhelming negative reviews and strong controversies.
A known animal activist, Sia has partnered with PETA for multiple campaigns, as well as supported the Oscar's Law and Beagle Freedom projects; For her 2016 tour, Sia partnered with various rescue organizations to conduct a dog adoption fair at each of her concerts.
