Robyn Miriam Carlsson is one of the most celebrated, forward-thinking and influential Swedish singer-songwriters of all time. After a career as a child star, Robyn debuted at the age of 15 with the 1995 pop album Robyn is Here, which, aided by the Max Martin-produced singles, gave her worldwide notoriety; her 1999 follow-up album My Truth wasn't released outside of Europe due to the subject matter of some lyrics and, as such, it failed to replicate the global success of her debut in spite of a better critical response; her third album, 2002's Don't Stop The Music, was successful in Sweden but it failed to make an international impact elsewhere. In 2004 she decided to fund her own label, Konichiwa Records, and reinvented her sound to a more electronic direction with her 2005 release Robyn, which gathered critical praise and, just like her debut album, became an international word-of-mouth success and reestablished her in the spotlight. In 2010 she started the release of the electropop-infused Body Talk trilogy: Body Talk, Pt. 1 in June, Body Talk, Pt. 2 in September and the compilation Body Talk (with the new songs released separately as the EP Body Talk, Pt. 3) in November; the three releases saw widespread critical acclaim. Between 2011 and 2017 her release work were more sporadic and collaborative in nature, with the EPs Do It Again (2014) with the Norwegian electronic duo Röyksopp, the Love Is Free EP in 2015 with the collective La Bagatelle Magique (composed of Robyn, keyboardist Markus Jägerstedt, and the producer Christian Falk) and the 2016 EP Trust Me with Mr. Tophat. Her comeback album, Honey, was released in 2018 to wide acclaim.
Recognized as an advocate for female and LGBT rights and climate change advocate, she's often considered one of the most influential pop stars of the last decades: her style and work with Max Martin is considered a prototype of the dominating teen pop sound and style of the remainder of the decade, while her later electronic style influenced the output and looks of most of the pop (and not-so pop) starlets that made a splash after her comeback, and even some who came before like Britney and Kylie Minogue.
During her career, Robyn has been nominated for 5 Grammy Awards and 3 MTV Europe Music Awards and has won 13 Swedish Grammis Awards.
