Radiohead, the group composed of vocalist Thom Yorke, guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Jonny Greenwood, guitarist Ed O'Brien, bassist Colin Greenwood and drummer Phil Selway, is one of the most influential, acclaimed and renowned musical acts of all time. Playing as On A Friday during the late-80s, the band signed with EMI and released their debut release Pablo Honey in 1993, anchored by the global success of the lead single Creep. The followup, 1995's The Bends, established them as critical darling and as an staple of rock radios, while the 1997 prog rock album OK Computer, one of the most acclaimed records of all time, pushed them to worldwide superstardom. Their sound changed lanes with both 2000's Kid A and 2001's Amnesiac, two eclectic releases full of electronic and jazz elements. In 2003, the political album Hail to the Thief saw them finishing their contract and going independent, which spawned In Rainbows in 2007, in a "pay-what-you-want" strategy that changed forever the music industry. Their last two releases so far, the rhythmic The King of Limbs (2011) and the more orchestral A Moon Shaped Pool (2016) continued to showcase their musical diversity and dominance as a legendary legacy act.
Known for their artistry and strong sense of experimentation, Radiohead is often labelled as one of the best British acts of all time and one of the most influential rock bands, often credited with advancing the sound of alternative rock to new directions; their work places highly in both listener polls and critics' lists of the best music of the 1990s and 2000s, and they're mostly considered among the most often-cited acts as a musical influence of all time. Outside of Radiohead, most of the members are active: Thom is a popular solo artist, having released four studio albums (including the soundtrack of the 2018 film Suspiria) ever since 2006; Jonny is a renowned Oscar-nominated film composer and frequent collaborator of Paul Thomas Anderson; Phil is a solo artist who has released three studio albums ever since 2010; and Ed O'Brien is the latest member of the band that went solo, doing so in 2020.
Having sold over 30 million records worldwide, they have won 4 Ivor Novello awards, 3 Grammy Awards and one MTV Video Music Award through their career; they are the most nominated act in Mercury Prize history, having been nominated five times, and have been inducted in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2019.
