Aly & AJ, a duo consisted by sisters Aly and AJ Michalka, are the most respected music group to have come out from the Disney Channel factory. After Aly's 2004 debut on the Disney Channel, the sisters signed a record deal with Hollywood Records (Disney's label) and released their pop rock debut album Into The Rush, which has sold over a million copies worldwide and received positive reviews. Their most acoustic-driven Christmas album Acoustic Hearts of Winter followed the year after and was a moderate success, while 2007's Insomniac, an album with a more pronounced electronic sound, was a large hit, aided by the breakthrough single Potential Breakup Song, with the positively-reviewed release being certified Platinum. Plans for a third studio album were constantly teased but the project never materialized and the sisters left Hollywood Records in 2010, and now they would operate as 78violet with a new record, which, outside of the release of two songs, also failed to materialize. After multiple teasing, the sisters revived the Aly & AJ name and self-released, in 2017, the appropriately titled synthpop EP Ten Years, which was a critical success and allow them to reestablish themselves as indie pop darlings; a "sequel" EP, Sanctuary, was released in 2019 to widespread acclaim, with a proper studio album being planed for 2020.
During their time in Disney the girls released a Nintendo DS videogame (in 2007) and four adventure book (2007-08), as well as being spokeswomen for Samsung's Hope for Education and the AmberWatch Foundation. As actresses, both sisters starred in the 2006 Disney Channel film Cow Belles and the 2007 MTV film Super Sweet 16: The Movie; Aly has starred in the 2004 Disney sci-fi show Phil From The Future, the 2009 comedy Bandslam with Vanessa Hudgens and the CW shows Hellcats (2010-11) and iZombie (2015-19); AJ has starred in the 2013 Christian film Grace Unplugged, the TV comedy The Goldbergs (since 2013) and its spin-off Schooled (2019-20), and the Netflix animated series She-Ra and The Princess of Power (2018-20).
The girls has won 4 Radio Disney Music Awards and they have been nominated for a Young Artist Award and a Teen Choice Award.
