Pont Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how the Pont Chrome extension handles your data. Pont is a tool designed to translate and explain language directly in your browser. Keeping your data secure and respecting your privacy is the primary goal of this project.

1. Information We Collect and How We Use It Pont only accesses the data strictly necessary to provide its core translation and explanation features.

User Preferences and API Keys: When you set up Pont, your AI model API keys and your custom domain visibility settings are saved. This information is stored entirely on your local machine using Chrome's local storage API.
Selected Text: When you highlight text and trigger a translation using the context menu or by clicking the extension icon, Pont reads that specific text to process the translation. The extension does not passively read, record, or monitor the rest of your browsing activity or background tabs.

2. Where Your Data is Stored All of your personal settings, including your API keys and domain toggles, remain stored locally on your device. Pont does not operate a centralized database to collect your keys, your translation history, or your browsing habits.

3. Third-Party Services Pont relies on external AI models to generate translations and explanations. When you request a translation, the specific text you selected is sent to the API provider you have configured. That specific text is subject to the privacy policies of those third-party API providers. Your API keys are transmitted securely and directly to those providers solely to authenticate your personal requests.

4. Data Sharing and Disclosure Your data is absolutely never sold. Pont does not track your web behavior for advertising or analytics purposes. The extension does not share your personal information with any third parties outside of the necessary, user initiated API calls made to your chosen AI provider.

5. Required Permissions Pont requires specific browser permissions to function properly:

Storage: Used exclusively to save your API keys and domain preferences locally.
ContextMenus: Allows you to right click and instantly translate highlighted text.
ActiveTab and Scripting: Allows the extension to read the specific text you want translated and inject the user interface directly into the current page.
Host Permissions: Allows the extension to operate seamlessly across the web so you can translate text on whichever site you are currently visiting.

6. Changes to This Policy This policy may be updated occasionally to reflect new features or changes in how the extension operates. Any significant updates will be clearly noted in the Chrome Web Store release notes.
