Polyurethane Degradation Project
At the J. Craig Venter Institute, I collaborated with mentors to engineer a bacterium (Alteromonas macleodii) that demonstrated evidence of polyurethane microplastic degradation within a simulated marine environment. Later, I utilized the UCSD Supercomputer center to generate computational simulations which modeled enzymatic stability, and designed a feasible CAD bioreactor for possible implementation into marine environments. I received coverage on the CNN News Network, and collaborated with local societies in my community (ACS, Torrey Pines Docent Society, etc.) to further project impact.Â
