The history and origins of Mega Evolution are shrouded in mystery and apparent contradictions, with different characters and groups having their own beliefs on where the phenomenon originated. For instance, Professor Sycamore theorizes Mega Evolution originates from special stones, possibly Evolution stones, that were irradiated by the light of XerneasX/YveltalY that was fired from the ultimate weapon 3,000 years ago. Despite this, Sycamore additionally claims that Mega Evolution is a new type of evolution, and that the phenomenon only occurs in the Kalos region.

However, the Draconids, a group of Dragon-type Pokémon Trainers from the Hoenn region that worship Rayquaza, believe that Mega Evolution originates from Rayquaza and various meteorites that rained down upon the Hoenn region thousands of years ago.

While Steven Stone claims what exactly Mega and Key Stones are is a mystery, Archie, Maxie, and the events of the Delta Episode show that meteorites contain their own latent power and under the right conditions can be turned into either Mega or Key Stones. This is directly demonstrated in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, where the Meteorite slowly changes to resemble a Mega Stone over the course of the game, before it's eventually consumed by Rayquaza during the Delta Episode. While this allows the Legendary Pokémon to Mega Evolve without technically holding the stone, it's implied by Zinnia that Mega Stones, or at least the meteorites that fuel Rayquaza's Mega Evolution, eventually lose their power.

In any battle, each Trainer may Mega Evolve a single Pokémon once. Mega Evolution is essentially a free action a Pokémon may make in addition to its normal move, but if a Pokémon will not use a move, it cannot Mega Evolve. Mega Evolution occurs before most actions except switching. A Mega-Evolved Pokémon will only revert to its original state if it faints or the battle ends; if it is switched out, it will remain Mega Evolved.

In Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Mega Evolution can also occur during the Talent Round of Pokémon Contest Spectaculars. If the participating Pokémon is holding its corresponding Mega Stone when its appeal causes the audience's excitement to reach its peak, it will Mega Evolve and perform a Spectacular Talent. The Pokémon will remain Mega Evolved for the remainder of the Talent Round.

In Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, when summoned by the Eon Flute, LatiosOR or LatiasAS will Mega Evolve before the player mounts it to soar in the sky. It will Mega Evolve even if it is not holding its corresponding Mega Stone, since the Eon Pokémon is summoned even if it is no longer in the player's game.

Delta Ralts line: Man-made. While this admittedly has little evidence to prove it, I would want to suggest that these are man-made, due to the presence of a mega stone, and the encounter location. These are found in close proximity to the Perfection Lab, where some deltas were created.

Delta Noivern: Natural. Here is an interesting one. This is likely one of the few cases of a truly natural delta. The delta Noivern shrine with the egg at the Ancient Tower is likely proof that this pokemon naturally exists, despite there only being 3 in existence that we are aware of.

Deltas with mega stones are very peculiar, as most are found in weird places (delta buneary is found in holon desert but the mega stone is hidden deep in holon jungle for one). If we are considering them as canon, delta ralts line has to have existed for at least some time before, as you use tesseract to get the mega stones. Same with delta pawnaird line.

When Game Freak first released Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, the public was amazed. Rayquaza Mega Evolved with a move, Dragon Ascent, meaning it could hold any item. With ridiculous stats and a powerful STAB move, as well as one of the best offensive types in the game, Mega Rayquaza became an overcentralizing force in Ubers. Using a different Mega outside of Rayquaza was unthinkable, and the opportunity cost of not using it was tremendous. With a single Dragon Dance, base 180 offensive stats, and a base 115 Speed, Mega Rayquaza could outspeed a majority of the tier while literally 2HKOing everything with Life Orb Dragon Ascent, outside of obscure checks such as Counter Skarmory and Shuca Berry Rhyperior. Klefki and Sableye were not even reliable ways to check it because it could run a Lum Berry as well.

Pokémon Origins (or in Japan, Pocket Monsters: The Origin) was released in 2013 to help promote Pokémon X & Y., Unlike the original anime. The 4-part miniseries serves as a more faithful adaptation of the games in several regards. The Pokémon franchise began in 1996, but the development of the original Japanese video games, Pocket Monsters: Red and Pocket Monsters: Green, spanned years before then.

As the first human character encountered in the earliest games and Pokémon Origins, Professor Oak promptly greets the player/viewer before welcoming them to the world of Pokémon. The rest of Professor Oak's introduction is virtually the same as in the original games, though with a couple of changes.

In the original Japanese episodes of Pokémon Origins, the rival of the protagonist, Red, goes by the name of Green (Blue in the English Dub). Because these characters are named as such and how the plot progresses, the miniseries closely match the story in Pokémon Red Version, with influences from Green/Blue and certain later games.

Red of Pokémon Origins, unlike Ash of the original anime series, travel without human companions. Granted, Red isn't truly alone because he always has his Pokémon with him, inside their Poké Balls most of the time. This is very much in line with the games, where the players go on their quest solo.

Like the games and original anime, the miniseries' version of Team Rocket is a criminal organization headed by Giovanni, Viridian City's Gym Leader. After multiple encounters with the crime boss and his thugs, Red faces him again in the Viridian City Gym to earn the final gym badge.

The path directly to Groudon (Omega Ruby) or Kyogre (Alpha Sapphire) is very simple. Just keep going down sets of stairs until you reach the legendary Pokemon. You will ride it to a hidden cavern deep within the Cave of Origin.
