The history and origins of Mega Evolution are shrouded in mystery and apparent contradictions, with different characters and groups having their own beliefs on where the phenomenon originated. For instance, Professor Sycamore theorizes Mega Evolution originates from special stones, possibly Evolution stones, that were irradiated by the light of XerneasX/YveltalY that was fired from the ultimate weapon 3,000 years ago. Despite this, Sycamore additionally claims that Mega Evolution is a new type of evolution, and that the phenomenon only occurs in the Kalos region.

The usage of Mega Evolution unleashes a massive amount of energy, as mentioned by Professor Cozmo, which itself is implied to have a direct connection, if not outright be a Pokmon's own life force, as it's mentioned by Lysandre that Professor Sycamore believes Mega Evolution releases all of a Pokmon's hidden energy at once that can't be achieved via regular evolution; this is coupled with CourtneyOR/Matt'sAS attempt at causing a rocket filled with Infinity Energy to explode, with Matt outright claiming it'd be like Mega Evolving the rocket.

While Steven Stone claims what exactly Mega and Key Stones are is a mystery, Archie, Maxie, and the events of the Delta Episode show that meteorites contain their own latent power and under the right conditions can be turned into either Mega or Key Stones. This is directly demonstrated in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, where the Meteorite slowly changes to resemble a Mega Stone over the course of the game, before it's eventually consumed by Rayquaza during the Delta Episode. While this allows the Legendary Pokmon to Mega Evolve without technically holding the stone, it's implied by Zinnia that Mega Stones, or at least the meteorites that fuel Rayquaza's Mega Evolution, eventually lose their power.

In Pokmon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Mega Evolution can also occur during the Talent Round of Pokmon Contest Spectaculars. If the participating Pokmon is holding its corresponding Mega Stone when its appeal causes the audience's excitement to reach its peak, it will Mega Evolve and perform a Spectacular Talent. The Pokmon will remain Mega Evolved for the remainder of the Talent Round.

In Pokmon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, when summoned by the Eon Flute, LatiosOR or LatiasAS will Mega Evolve before the player mounts it to soar in the sky. It will Mega Evolve even if it is not holding its corresponding Mega Stone, since the Eon Pokmon is summoned even if it is no longer in the player's game.

Mega Evolution is mainly featured in the Pokmon Trading Card Game as Pokmon. They were added as a new mechanic to the game in the XY era as an evolution of Pokmon-EX cards. Mega Evolving a Pokmon immediately ends a player's turn, unless that Pokmon has its specific Spirit Link Pokmon Tool attached to it.

The trainer uses a Device to make his Pokmon "Mega" evolve. Just like the Digivices and Crests. Mega evolutions are temporary , just like Digievolutions. Megas are just the last Evolution but more "evolved" , just like Digievolutions (Greymon > MetalGreymon etc)

So I have a couple of problems, the first is when I am in pkhex and i make a pokemon "Mega" but in battle it does not actually show as mega and also i gave myself a mega ring in the beginning of the game and my mewtwo has a mega stone yet it does not allow me to mega evolve

If mega evolution if just a reaction to the power of mega stones, plus the bond between the trainer and the Pokemon, then why aren't all fully evolved Pokemon capable of mega evolving? Why only specific Pokemon? Does every Pokemon have their own mega stones that just haven't been discovered yet?

Mega Evolution is a mechanic in the Pokmon series, introduced in Pokmon X and Y. It is a temporary mega evolution that can be initiated in battle if the Pokmon is holding the Mega Stone for their species, however, only select Pokmon can undergo Mega Evolution. It can be triggered in battle before attacking, and it allows the Pokmon to attack after undergoing Mega Evolution. Only one Pokmon per team can be in its Mega Evolution, and after the battle is over any Pokmon in their mega evolution return to their normal form.

I battled a mega gengar in the challenge championship and it outsped my greninja which has 252 speed ev, 31 speed iv and naive(-spdef,+speed) and the gengar mega evolved the same turn i used dark pulse and went first. Is the game going by gen 8 speed changes?

Let me start by saying that I wouldn't mind if Gamefreak just threw mega evolution, Z-moves and dynamaxing in the garbage. Nevertheless, I prefer dynamax to megas. Everybody complains about Dmax pokes being too strong and hard to kill, but doesn't the same thing apply to megas? To me Dmax checks all the same boxes that mega does, with the added balance that *every* pokemon can Dmax, compared to megas being limited to a select few. Dmax adds a nice layer of strategy to competitive doubles, though to be fair that apparently is not true for singles, since Dmax is banned pretty much everywhere for singles (I hardly play singles).

People also say that mega designs are cooler, but I for one prefer the subtlety of Gmax designs. Mega designs are often dramatically different from the original pokemon, while Gmax designs tend to stay more true to the original. Take 2 of my personal favorite pokemon: Lapras and Slowbro. Gmax Lapras looks much like regular Lapras, but with a few additions (longer neck, different shaped shell, and my favorite touch: the music notes/ice crystals surrounding it). Mega Slowbro, however has its entire body replaced with Shellder's shell. It's basically a completely different (and IMO much more boring looking) pokemon. (full disclosure: Mega Slowbro is IMO one of the worst designs Gamefreak has ever made and is a major reason for my dislike of megas). It would be one thing if mega evolutions were true (i.e. permanent) evolutions, but having your pokemon become these completely different pokemon during battle and then go back to normal always seemed jarring to me.

Also, nostalgia is always a factor. I get that if gen 6 was your favorite gen you probably like megas, but I feel like I'm missing something. It seems to me that nostalgia, aesthetic differences and a preference for competitive singles over doubles aren't enough to explain why everybody suddenly loves megas and is demanding them to be in the gen 4 remakes.

To be reiterate, I would prefer that Gamefreak just nixed all of their battle gimmicks and tried to keep battling interesting in future games with just new moves and abilities, but I doubt that would happen. I think (or at least hope) that they will try to improve on dynamaxing by balancing Dmaxed pokemon and converting old mega designs into "new" Gmax forms rather than just making a new battle gimmick that replaces the old one every gen.

Its hard to go back to their regular form after seeing their mega form. This was the one big straw I had about the whole concept of Digimons. If they keep it permanent and not revert back to their old self, it could be like a 4th form of evolving.

Are they doing this for game-play balance and strategy as that the only thing I can think off. Most of the mega evolution look better than their regular form. But at the same time if they are going to give more Pokemon mega evolution, then I think they should make the new evolution permanent. They look more impressive and require less work because they are still form.

I think there is nothing wrong with mega evolution. It's interesting and kind of a curve ball. I like it when Nintendo takes risks, and this one was a good one in my opinion. While I believe that they should have given Mawile and Absol normal evolutions, and Kangaskhan a pre evo, I'm fairly fine with mega evolutions.

Overall I don't really know how Mega evolution works, so I can't tell whether it will be overpowered, or if it will even have a real impact on competitive play at all. I DO know that I like most of the designs they've shown so far, and that's good enough for me.

I'd have to use it and see all of the positives and negatives before I can have a real judgement. As it stands now, I think it's dumb how only a select few Pokemon have mega evolutions and how they haven't given us much information about them yet. We'll have to wait and see, though I do have a more pessimistic overlook on megas than an optimistic one.

In case this gets merged, in terms of the mega evolutions, It seems a bit out of place and it really reminds me of Digimon evolutions since they take place and are exclusive to battle, for the most part. I cannot say an exact opinion on them yet obviously, but the concept seems interesting but only if done right. There could be a lot of ways to screw that up.

They've released just about all the info you can get. It's only in battle. There's a button at the bottom of the moves screen that lets you activate it. You can use a move in the same turn you mega evolve. Certain mega evolutions get certain stat boosts. Certain mega evos get new abilities. And certain mega evos get different typings. Any other questions I'm sure I can answer.

Well, they /did/ have to redesign all of the Pokemon anyway. I don't think it would be TOO hard of a task to give every final evolution Pokemon another design, especially since it's most likely just a modified version of the original.

Well you could say this about a lot of things. What about pokemon that got evolutions in later generations? Why couldn't they evolve before? Even eeveelutions. You mean to tell me that no one made their Eevee's happy in first generation and no Eevee's evolved into espeon or umbreon? I don't personally think it's a big deal. 17dc91bb1f
