An Integrated Approach to System Reliability Management for Military Vehicles

Julvin Seow Lay Ming

Abstract

The objective of this research is to develop an integrated approach to improving the reliability system using Reliability modeling and decision analysis for the complex military defense systems. Complex military defense systems usually span several years and often decades. For the past decade, on the average, certain huge amount of money are usually spent on repair cost for vehicle repair during the manufacturer’s warranty period. System Reliability improvement will therefore reduce the costs on vehicle repair during warranty period. Improving reliability will, in general cost more at the beginning. However, if it has been achieved, the reliability usually saves money and sometimes saves lives. In this thesis, we proposed using the reliability analysis framework, which is offered for assessing the value of flexibility strategies in vehicle systems, and utilizes a Decision Tree Analysis methodology for assessing the cost-effectiveness of the devised strategies.
