Abstract

The Singapore Building and Construction Authority (BCA) Green Mark Scheme was launched in January 2005 as an initiative to drive Singapore's construction industry towards more environment-friendly buildings. It is intended to promote sustainability in the built environment and raise environmental awareness in the building and construction industries. The BCA Green Mark assesses building and award scores based on energy efficiency, water efficiency, environmental protection, indoor environment quality, and other green features. Buildings are awarded different ratings based on their overall scores. The goal of this thesis is first, is to study the methodology in the BCA Green Mark scheme from the multiple criteria decision analysis perspectives. Alternative methods of scoring might be developed based on the analytic hierarchy process. The methodology developed may also be used to help developers find cost-effective solutions in their building design and management in achieving the BCA Green Mark. Case studies will be used to test the methodology developed.
