Personnel-equipment assignment to operations with flexible start and end times

Weng Biying

Abstract

This thesis looks into the problem of assigning personnel and equipment resources optimally to operations with flexible start and end time, while respecting the constraints imposed on the usage of the resources. The problem is first model with integer programming formulation, of which more constraints can be added in according to the real situations. The model is then tested with different sets of data. From the test result, this thesis concludes that the model can solve problem with relatively large scale with considerable short time. The model in this thesis can be widely applied in various kinds of companies. It is able to generate various types of schedules such as shift and operation schedules. It also can be used to find the service level of the company. Besides, it can be used to find out the appropriate resources needed for a given set of operations.
