PRIVACY POLICY
Pocketloft ("we," "our," or "the App") is a private, journal-style application that lets you write conversations addressed to your past self, your future self, or moments anchored on your personal timeline. This Privacy Policy describes how Pocketloft handles information when you use the App. By using Pocketloft, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.
1. INFORMATION WE COLLECT
Pocketloft is designed to be a fully local, offline experience. We do NOT collect, transmit, or store any personally identifiable information ("PII") on remote servers.
The following information is created and stored EXCLUSIVELY on your device:
- The text content of conversations you write
- Photos you choose to attach from your Photo Library
- Memory Anchors (titles, dates, descriptions, optional images) you create
- Drafts, mood tags, and prompt selections
- Application preferences such as theme, language, notification settings, and Face ID lock state
We do NOT collect:
- Your name, email address, phone number, or any other contact information
- Your location
- Your contacts, calendar, microphone, or camera input (except where explicitly described in section 4)
- Device identifiers used for tracking across apps or websites
- Advertising identifiers (IDFA)
2. HOW INFORMATION IS USED
All data created in Pocketloft is used solely to provide the journaling experience inside the App itself:
- To display, search, and organize your conversations on your device
- To trigger local notifications on dates you have configured (for example, when a sealed letter becomes openable, or when an "Echo" surfaces a conversation written a year ago)
- To compute on-device statistics (such as keyword clouds, mood distributions, and monthly heatmaps) shown in the Insights screen
Your data is never sent to us or to any third party for analysis, advertising, profiling, or any other purpose.
3. DATA STORAGE AND RETENTION
All data is stored locally on your device using standard iOS storage mechanisms (such as application sandbox files and the device keychain for encryption keys, when Face ID lock is enabled).
Because we do not have access to your data, retention is entirely under your control:
- You may delete any conversation, anchor, or draft at any time from within the App.
- You may reset all application data via Settings → Reset.
- Uninstalling the App removes all locally stored data.
We do not maintain backups of your data on our servers because we never receive your data.
If you use iCloud Backup (managed by Apple, not by us), your device's encrypted backup may include Pocketloft's local data. Please refer to Apple's iCloud Backup privacy documentation for details on Apple's handling of backups.
4. PERMISSIONS
Pocketloft may request the following iOS permissions. Each permission is requested only when you actively use the corresponding feature, and you may revoke any permission at any time from your device's Settings app.
- Photo Library (read): Used so you can choose photos to attach to a conversation or to a Memory Anchor. We never upload these photos; they are referenced locally only.
- Photo Library (add): Used when you tap Export → Save to Photos, so the exported image of your conversation can be saved to your Photo Library.
- Face ID / Touch ID: Used only if you enable "Lock with Face ID" in Settings, so the App can verify your identity before showing your conversations. The biometric check is performed entirely by iOS; we never receive or store your biometric data.
- Local Notifications: Used to deliver on-device reminders for sealed-letter openings, daily prompts, and Echo events. Notifications are scheduled locally and are never sent through any remote push service.
We do NOT request: Location, Microphone, Camera (unless you explicitly enable an in-app feature that needs it), Contacts, Calendars, Motion, or Speech Recognition.
5. TRACKING AND ANALYTICS
Pocketloft does NOT use:
- Third-party analytics SDKs (such as Firebase Analytics, Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude, Segment, AppsFlyer, Adjust, or similar)
- Advertising SDKs (such as Google AdMob, Meta Audience Network, Unity Ads, or similar)
- Crash reporting services that transmit personally identifiable information
- Device fingerprinting libraries
- The App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework, because Pocketloft does not track users across apps or websites
6. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
Pocketloft is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. Because the App does not collect personal information at all, no data about any user — including minors — is transmitted to us.
7. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
Pocketloft uses certain open-source libraries (for example, for rendering rich text, displaying web views of these policies, picking images, scheduling local notifications, and securely storing encryption preferences). These libraries run entirely on your device and do not transmit data to their authors or to us.
The App contains no in-app advertisements, no in-app purchases, and no social features.
8. DATA SECURITY
Because your data never leaves your device, the App's security model relies on the security of your device:
- Use a passcode and biometric authentication on your iOS device.
- Enable "Lock with Face ID" in Pocketloft Settings to require biometric verification each time the App opens.
- Keep iOS and Pocketloft up to date.
We follow Apple's recommended secure storage practices for any locally stored secrets (such as encryption keys used when Face ID lock is enabled).
9. YOUR RIGHTS
Because we do not collect your data, traditional "data access," "data portability," and "data deletion" requests are fulfilled directly through the App:
- Access: All your data is visible to you inside the App.
- Portability: Use Settings → Export to produce a long-image or PDF copy of any subset of your data.
- Deletion: Delete items individually, use Settings → Reset for full deletion, or uninstall the App.
If you are a resident of the European Union (GDPR), the United Kingdom (UK GDPR), or California (CCPA/CPRA), you retain all rights granted by those laws. Because we do not collect personal data, no further action by us is required to fulfill these rights.
10. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this document indicates when the policy was last revised. Material changes will be communicated through an App update.
TERMS OF USE
These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Pocketloft mobile application (the "App"). By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

3. USER CONTENT
All content you create within the App ("Your Content") — including but not limited to written conversations, attached photos, memory anchors, drafts, and tags — is owned by you and is stored locally on your device.
We do not access, collect, transmit, or store Your Content on remote servers. See our Privacy Policy for details.
You are solely responsible for Your Content and for any backup of Your Content. We are not responsible for any loss, corruption, or unauthorized disclosure of Your Content, including in the event of device loss, theft, damage, factory reset, or App uninstallation.
4. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
The App, including its name, logo, design, code, text, graphics, prompt library, predefined templates, and all related intellectual property, is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other applicable laws.
Except for the limited license granted in section 1, no rights, title, or interest in the App are transferred to you. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.
5. UPDATES AND CHANGES
We may, from time to time, release updates, patches, or new versions of the App. These may be applied automatically by the App Store or may require your manual action. We may also modify, add to, or remove features of the App at our discretion, without prior notice.
We may revise these Terms at any time. Continued use of the App after revisions take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree with the revised Terms, you must stop using the App and uninstall it.
6. DISCLAIMERS
THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, OR ACCURACY.
We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free from viruses or other harmful components. We do not warrant that any data stored locally by the App will be preserved indefinitely.
Pocketloft is a personal journaling tool. It is not a medical, psychological, or mental health service, and it does not provide professional advice of any kind. If you are experiencing emotional distress or a mental health emergency, please contact a qualified professional or your local emergency services.
7. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL WE BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF PROFITS, LOSS OF GOODWILL, OR ANY OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, ARISING FROM OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF, OR INABILITY TO USE, THE APP — EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
OUR TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE APP SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU HAVE PAID US FOR THE APP IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR FIVE U.S. DOLLARS (USD 5.00), WHICHEVER IS GREATER.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain warranties or liabilities. In such jurisdictions, the above exclusions and limitations apply only to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law.
8. INDEMNIFICATION
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless us, our affiliates, and our respective officers, directors, employees, agents, and licensors from and against any and all claims, damages, obligations, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including attorneys' fees) arising from: (a) your use of and access to the App; (b) your violation of any of these Terms; or (c) your violation of any rights of any third party.
9. TERMINATION
These Terms remain in effect until terminated. You may terminate them at any time by uninstalling the App. We may terminate or suspend your license to use the App immediately, without prior notice, for any reason — including if you breach these Terms.
Upon termination, the rights and licenses granted to you under these Terms will cease. The provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination (including sections on Intellectual Property, Disclaimers, Limitation of Liability, Indemnification, and Governing Law) will so survive.
10. GOVERNING LAW AND DISPUTE RESOLUTION
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws applicable to the jurisdiction of your residence, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms or the App shall first be attempted to be resolved through informal good-faith negotiation. If a dispute cannot be resolved within thirty (30) days of written notice, either party may pursue resolution through the competent courts of your jurisdiction of residence, unless required otherwise by applicable consumer-protection law.
11. APPLE-SPECIFIC TERMS
These Terms are between you and us, not with Apple Inc. ("Apple"). Apple is not responsible for the App or its content. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the App. Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
In case of any failure of the App to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any) for the App. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to the App.
12. GENERAL PROVISIONS
- Entire Agreement: These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding the App.
- Severability: If any provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
- No Waiver: Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms will not be deemed a waiver of such right or provision.
- Assignment: You may not assign these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign these Terms freely.
