Out of desperation, members of the expedition steal the corn. The group took it a step further and found graves with material goods in it for use, and took those too.
When the Wampanoag Tribe returned to the settlement, they were angered, now seeing their new neighbors as threats. This also reminded them of a former White Raiding Party that captured Native Americans several years ago and took them on ships essentially to never be seen again. The Wampanoag Tribe believed they were going to have to remove their new neighbors, however when they saw women and children getting off the boat, they realized this group was different than the last white people they've seen.
