Being 500 miles from Jamestown, we were quite aware that when we got off the Mayflower, there would be no existing government to rule us. What should we do?
Option one: total anarchy--each man for himself, no rules, no leaders
Option two: head south for Virginia where an English government was present
Option three: ask all men aboard to sign an agreement that pledged themselves to mutual cooperation and social behavior.
