If you want a wired, single-ear solution optimized for Microsoft Teams and call center environments where stability is key, choose PLT Poly; if you need wireless freedom, dual-microphone noise cancellation, and the ability to roam your home office while taking calls, choose Amazon Renewed Plantronics. This isn't about guessing which headset might be cheaper or finding a deal on a refurbished unit; it is about matching the specific hardware capabilities to your actual workflow. I have analyzed the design sheets for both the EncorePro 515-M and the Voyager 4220 UC to help you decide which one fits your setup, especially when considering performance for gaming consoles like the PS5 alongside work tasks.
• PLT Poly (EncorePro 515-M): Its biggest strength is the seamless, native integration with Microsoft Teams and the physical hold/answer buttons that eliminate screen tapping; its trade-off is the lack of Bluetooth mobility and the single-ear design that may not suit everyone.
• Amazon Renewed Plantronics (Voyager 4220 UC): It offers true wireless freedom with a 98-foot range and superior battery life for long days; the trade-off is the reliance on a USB-A adapter for PC connectivity rather than a direct cable connection and the "renewed" status which implies a pre-owned origin.
• Who is this for: The PLT Poly is for the dedicated desk worker who lives in Teams; the Amazon Renewed Plantronics is for the mobile professional who needs to walk away from their computer without dropping a call.
The PLT Poly EncorePro 515-M is built with a very specific philosophy in mind: efficiency for the remote employee who spends the vast majority of their day glued to a video conferencing platform. This headset is designed as a single-ear, over-the-head device that leaves one ear open, a feature that is critical for call center agents or remote workers who need to hear colleagues in the room or ambient sounds while still engaging in a virtual meeting. The physical design prioritizes durability and ease of use, featuring a plastic enclosure that houses an angular shape around the ear intended to keep the device secure during long shifts.

What truly sets this unit apart from generic headsets is its deep integration with Microsoft Teams. Unlike many headsets that require software drivers or complex settings adjustments, this model was the first to offer a full native Teams experience directly from the inline controls. You can access Teams features instantly without looking at your screen. Furthermore, the inclusion of dedicated hold and call answer buttons means you can manage your calls with a simple touch, avoiding the fumbling of mouse clicks or keyboard shortcuts during a busy moment. This level of tactile control is a significant advantage for productivity.
However, this headset is not a universal tool. It relies on a wired USB connection, offering both USB-A and USB-C ports on the same cable, but it lacks the wireless flexibility found in other models. The audio frequency range of 200 Hz to 8,000 Hz is tuned specifically for voice clarity in business calls rather than immersive music listening or high-fidelity gaming bass. If you are looking for a device to play Call of Duty on your PS5 or listen to music while working out, this mono headset will feel limiting. It is strictly a tool for communication, optimized for those who need to save their hearing with acoustic protection that manages safe volume levels over time.
The Amazon Renewed Plantronics Voyager 4220 UC represents a different approach entirely, focusing on mobility and multi-device connectivity. As a renewed product, this unit has been professionally inspected and tested to ensure it works and looks like new, offering a cost-effective way to access premium Poly hardware. The standout feature here is the wireless capability. It connects via Bluetooth to mobile devices and uses a USB-A Bluetooth adapter for PC and Mac connections, allowing you to roam up to 98 feet from your computer line of sight. This freedom is essential for professionals who need to move around their house, grab coffee, or step into another room without being tethered to a desk.
Audio performance on this model is geared toward isolation and clarity in noisy environments. It features dual microphones designed to block out background noise for the people on the other end of the call, ensuring your voice remains crisp even if you are walking through a busy kitchen or a noisy street. The battery life is equally impressive, boasting up to 12 hours of talk time and 15 hours of listen time, which easily covers a standard workday without needing a recharge. The design utilizes over-ear cups that sit completely over the ears, providing a passive noise cancellation effect that helps you focus on the conversation.
While the versatility is a major plus, there are considerations for potential buyers. Being a "renewed" item means it is pre-owned, though it comes with a limited warranty and the backing of the Amazon Renewed Guarantee if the product does not meet expectations. The audio frequency range listed is quite narrow, from 85 Hz to 255 Hz, which suggests the driver tuning is heavily specialized for voice transmission rather than a broad spectrum of audio. Additionally, the reliance on a separate Bluetooth adapter for PC connectivity means you must manage that dongle. It is an excellent choice for someone who values movement and battery longevity over a direct plug-and-play wired connection.
• Best for Microsoft Teams users → PLT Poly, due to its native inline controls and direct software integration.
• Best for mobility and roaming → Amazon Renewed Plantronics, thanks to the 98-foot Bluetooth range and wireless design.
• Best for long battery life → Amazon Renewed Plantronics, offering 12 hours of active talk time versus the always-on wired nature of the PLT.
• Best for hands-free call management → PLT Poly, with dedicated physical buttons for holding and answering calls.
• Best for noise isolation → Amazon Renewed Plantronics, utilizing dual microphones and over-ear cup design for better environmental blocking.
• Best for PS5 compatibility → PLT Poly, as the wired USB connection ensures zero latency for chat and game audio compared to Bluetooth latency issues.
• Best value for refurbished gear → Amazon Renewed Plantronics, providing premium features at a lower price point through the renewal program.
• Best for hearing safety → PLT Poly, featuring built-in acoustic protection to manage safe volume levels across the organization.
In my opinion, the choice depends entirely on whether you prioritize stability or freedom. If I were buying a headset today specifically for a hybrid work setup that includes gaming on a PS5, I would lean toward the PLT Poly. The wired USB connection guarantees zero audio lag, which is non-negotiable for gaming, while the Teams integration makes it the superior choice for work calls. The single-ear design allows me to stay aware of my surroundings, which is crucial when managing multiple tasks. However, if your work requires you to walk around frequently and you don't care about gaming, the Amazon Renewed Plantronics is the winner for its battery life and wireless range. For the specific case of using these as the best on-ear headphones for PS5 or seeking noise canceling true wireless earbuds for PS5, the wired PLT option provides the reliability needed for serious gameplay.
It can work for voice chat, but the Bluetooth latency may cause audio delays that make it unsuitable for competitive gaming. A wired connection is generally preferred for the best sports earbuds for PS5 experience where timing matters.
Both utilize passive noise cancellation, but the Amazon Renewed Plantronics adds active microphone noise reduction with dual mics to block out background noise for listeners, whereas the PLT focuses on acoustic protection for the wearer.
Both are designed for desktop use; the PLT Poly plugs directly into USB-A or USB-C ports, while the Amazon Renewed Plantronics requires a USB-A Bluetooth adapter for PC and Mac connectivity.
