The Chromatic Conjectures In Homotopy Theory
Chromatic homotopy theory is a branch of algebraic topology that began in the 1970s. It was inspired by ideas of Frank Adams, Dan Quillen, Serge Novikov and most importantly Jack Morava. At the end of that decade I made several conjectures about it, most of which were proved by Mike Hopkins and various collaborators. The one exception was the telescope conjecture, which was not settled until last year. In this talk I will describe these conjectures and the thinking behind them.
