For anyone who's ever wanted to learn how to play a piano or keyboard, and play it well, the thought of hours upon hours of repetitive practice may be somewhat off-putting. The truth is, it doesn't have to be! With the proper techniques and mindset, you can be the piano or keyboard expert you've always wanted to be.
First, identify your goals and what you wish to achieve. There is a "golden rule" in regards to the piano, as well as the keyboard, which is 'practice what you CANNOT play, not what you CAN play'. You should strive to practice things outside of your comfort zone. One method you can employ is splitting your practice session into two halves. For your first half of practice, try practicing the more difficult stuff since your mind will be fresher and more sharp. Then for the last half, ease the pace with some more enjoyable, yet still challenging, tunes. Once you're getting more comfortable with your ability, don't be afraid to practice with your eyes closed from time to time!
Another thing to remember, repetition is essential! I know the word may bring about thoughts of being "tedious" or "boring", but if you encounter something that you find particularly difficult then you MUST practice it repeatedly, preferably 3 times a day at least! It may take you days, weeks or months to master but that's ok! Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day.
