After buying my PS4 I noticed my connection speed was extremely slow compared to my connection on my PC and other devices. I would be getting 50down/4up on my PC, and around 8down/2up on my PS4. This lead to painstakingly slow downloads on my PS4. A 2GB file would take around 40 minutes which is unacceptable, especially considering digital downloads becoming more popular.

I'm aware several question-type threads about this have come up around here, but I have seen few solutions. After searching Google, I did find a solution that actually has fixed my speeds. I haven't seen a thread like this, and searched and didn't find one, but if there has been one, I apologize, but hopefully this will help people who don't know about this.

Playstation 5 Wifi Download Speed

8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 are a Google DNS server from what I understand, and using those has helped a ton of people with their speed, HOWEVER, those did NOT help me. Try it. If it doesn't work, I'd recommending downloading "Namebench", which is a program that checks for the best DNS server for your connection. It takes 5-10 minutes to run and will then tell you the best DNS servers to use.

If your PS4 WiFi connection is slow, you should consider switching to a wired connection. When your PS4 is connected to the internet with WiFi, you might experience slower speeds because of the distance or any objects between your console and the modem that could weaken the connection. With a wired connection, your PS4 is directly connected to your internet modem using an ethernet cord. This means that the connection will be faster and more reliable. To establish a wired connection:

Step six: If all else fails, you may need a new internet plan. A good internet connection type, one ideal for gaming, combined with the right internet speed can relieve your PS4 connection issues.

Before you call your ISP and tell them what you think of their terrible Internet speed, you need to make sure that they are indeed at fault. In most cases I have seen, the cause for the slow Wifi is actually something that can easily be solvable by troubleshooting your own WiFi network.

PS Plus is an ongoing subscription with a recurring subscription fee which is charged automatically (at the then current PS Store price) at the frequency you choose at purchase until cancelled. Full terms apply: see PSN Terms of Service and PS Plus Usage Terms at www.playstation.com/legal.

My PS4 is about 15 feet from our router, and the speeds are pretty low and fluctuate. It's currently getting 16 Mbps, and is causing PlayStation Vue to constantly stop to say the connection is too low to continue. Our plan is 150 Mbps, and I understand I'm not going to get full speeds wirelessly. But a phone running a speed test next to the PS4 gets 42 Mbps. Are there any tricks, or is the PS4 just poor when wireless?

I had the same issue when I got a new router. It turned out to be due to the channel used by the router for the 2.4Ghz network was to crowded in my appartment. If you have a Android phone you can use an app named "wifi analyzer" to see what channels can be better, e.g less interferens. Otherwise just try different channels on the router and see if one is beyter then the current one.

When I get frustrated by low download speeds on PSN I sometimes change the DNS to the Google one (8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4) and it gets a big boost. I don't know if that helps out with PS Vue as well, though.

The extender is the more reliable option, but if you have a low quality router (where your wifi isn't that great even on your other devices), the powerline adapters may provide faster speeds and be just as reliable (depending on your house's electrical wiring arrangements). But you can only do so much, as the network card in the ps4 is basically garbage. I'm really, really hoping they upgrade it in the NEO.

I woudl think it would only take about 15 minute and the right parts to connect an external antenna to the PS 4. I think this because the ifixit.com site has instructions for a direct one-to-one replacement. Thus you SHOULD be able to connect another type of antenna to the same connector. An antenna that is bigger shoudl not be an issue as long as it is a wifi/BT antenna.

When checking internet speed on my iPhone through the wifi I got about 480Mbps download and upload with ping 12ms. Test on laptop showing about 350Mbps for both download and upload, ping 19ms. Unfortunately on PS4 I can get only 50Mbps (250Mbps sometimes) download and roughly 6 up to 9Mbps upload. This is very frustrating . Playing on console is pointless because of lag which simply makes all of the games unplayable.

Thanks for getting in touch @KOWSKYSTERr123. You may want to contact Sony directly and check to see if there's any kind of speed cap that might be applied, as a quick Google search has bought up a few results.

@KOWSKYSTERr123 I'm sorry changing your DNS settings hasn't improved your speeds, I appreciate how unsatisfying this can be. Can you please try opening a web browser whilst you're on your PlayStation and go to speedtest.net to perform a speed test? Whilst doing this, please also make sure you're doing this both wired and wireless. Once you've done this, please let us know the results of the sync speed and download/upload.

I'm getting 550/35 internet soon and I'm wondering what the maximum download speed on my PS4 would be. I've got the PS4 1TB old shape model. I'm just worried as my friend has 250/250 and he says he doesn't get the full download speed. Does it make a difference if I use Wifi or ethernet?

has any one had this issue ? My internet speeds seem to be good. I'm connected wirelessly. But I'm getting different speeds on different speed test sights. The tether app shows the highest speeds. But speedtest.net is is showing my speeds are under half of what the tether app is saying.

im also getting extremely slow download speeds on ps4. I just ran a test and am getting 20.2mgps download and 1.7mgps upload. This Dosnt seem right considering I've just upped my internet plan to fibre max and purchased this router. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

3. The speed tested on the Tether app might be different from that on your computer, we may think the Tether speed is more like the connection speed between the router and your internet, which would be different from the speed you can get on the computer.

I couldn't connect my laptop the modem directly, but when I disconnected all wireless devices and connected my laptop directly to the router, here are the three photos. It's very strange as it started high, then dropped right down to very slow speeds considering what I should be getting.

I spoke to some one today at the electronics store and he said there's no way I should be getting these speeds, he said I need to call TP link and perhaps change some settings. Otherwise I may need to bring it back into the store as it could be faulty. Is there a number I can call some one ?

@Solla-topee you are welcome mate, I followed your steps and I'm unsure if it worked. I am getting good speeds some times. I had 400mgps download before I left for dinner. But when I came back I was only on 80mgps. Do you think I may have a faulty router? Or is there other settings I need to change some where?

My Virgin Media hub is in modem mode, connected to an Asus GT-AX6000 router. A speed test completed on the Asus gives an average of 90 Mbps download and 25 Mbps upload. This is more than enough to stream up to the web and then down to the Portal.

On my PlayStation console the speed test shows 90 Mbps download but only 3 Mbps second upload. It is this very slow upload that is causing my problem. Sony recommends 5 Mbps minimum to connect to the Portal, and 15 Mbps upload for the best connection.

Note:  Your connection speed may vary from time to time. The results of your test may not be the same from day to day. For questions about your connection speed, contact your Internet service provider (ISP).

Note:  When you perform one of these tests, take note that your wireless connection's speed, even with excellent signal strength, can be 30-50% slower compared to wired connections. The disparity between wired and Wi-Fi performance is due to several reasons including additional network protocol overhead, radio interference, physical obstructions between devices and decreasing signal strength with distance. In addition, as more devices communicate on the network simultaneously, its performance will also decrease. Whenever possible, always use a wired connection for best performance.

One last thing, not relevant to wireless vs. wired: You say you've disabled Wi-Fi on your ISP equipment, but is it in bridge/bypass mode? Else you likely have double NAT, which can affect performance (speed, latency, reliability) and cause strange problems. More on that:

The agonizingly slow download speeds of Sony's PlayStation Network are well-documented. It's especially obnoxious when you come home from a long day of work, ready to play a newly released game or expansion, but are faced with an update that is estimated to finish downloading long after your bedtime. Many "fixes" have been discussed over the years -- manually changing your DNS server to Google's, for instance -- but most are snake oil. This fix, though, might actually work for you, as some internet sleuthing and personal testing have revealed a high success rate. You're going to set up a local proxy on your computer and run your PS4's internet connection through that for downloads. e24fc04721
