If you want maximum security for sensitive conversations and a robust Microsoft Teams experience, choose Plantronics Poly Savi 7320-M; if you need an intuitive touch-screen interface on the base station and lightweight comfort for all-day wear, choose Yealink DECT Headset WH66.
• Plantronics Poly Savi 7320-M: Delivers military-grade FIPS 140-2 encryption and a massive 580ft wireless range, but it is a heavier, over-ear unit designed specifically for high-security environments rather than casual travel.
• Yealink DECT Headset WH66: Features a unique 4-inch capacitive touch screen on the base for direct call control and offers a lighter 80g design with on-ear cups, though it lacks the ultra-high security protocols of its competitor.
• Who is this for? The Plantronics is the clear choice for financial, medical, or government professionals where data privacy is non-negotiable. The Yealink suits business communicators who prioritize modern interface control and portability for daily office use.
The Plantronics Poly Savi 7320-M is built for one specific purpose: protecting your voice and your data in environments where a breach is not an option. This headset stands out because it exceeds enterprise security expectations by integrating military-grade FIPS 140-2 listed features, including 256-bit AES encryption. In industries like finance, healthcare, or government, where Bluetooth technology is often banned due to potential vulnerabilities, this headset provides a seamless alternative without compromising on safety. If you work with sensitive client information or confidential internal discussions, the "Ultra-Secure" designation here isn't just marketing fluff; it is the core design philosophy.
Beyond security, this unit offers genuine freedom of movement that few competitors match. With a line-of-sight wireless range of up to 580 feet (180 meters), you can walk from your desk to the breakroom, step into a hallway, or even move through adjacent rooms without losing connection. This is particularly useful for large offices or open-plan spaces where you might need to leave your workstation to discuss a project face-to-face. The system supports adaptive power control, meaning the radio signal adjusts to cover only the area you are currently using, which helps manage user density and keeps the network clean.

The audio experience is engineered for clarity in noisy settings. The noise-canceling microphone utilizes Poly Acoustic Fence technology to isolate your voice from background chatter, ensuring that what you say is heard exactly as intended. It is fully Microsoft Teams certified, providing easy meeting starts and notification access directly through the headset controls. However, users should be aware of the physical footprint. At 16 ounces, this is a substantial piece of equipment compared to lighter alternatives. It uses an over-ear cup design, which provides excellent isolation but adds weight. If you are looking for sports earbuds for flights or something featherlight for long-haul travel, this heavy-duty communication tool might feel cumbersome. It is a professional workhorse, not a travel accessory.
The Yealink DECT Headset WH66 takes a different approach, focusing on modern interaction and user-friendly control. Its standout feature is the 4.0-inch capacitive touch screen on the base station, boasting a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. This isn't just a display; it is a command center. You can control calls, navigate menus, and manage settings with a simple tap, creating a workflow that feels more like using a tablet than operating traditional telephony hardware. This interface allows for smooth collaboration with common Unified Communications platforms, making it ideal for dynamic office environments where quick access to call management is essential.
Comfort is another major pillar of the WH66's design. Weighing in at only 80 grams, it is significantly lighter than the Plantronics model. The ear placement is "On Ear," utilizing faux leather materials that offer a soft touch against the skin. This makes it an excellent candidate for those who wear headsets for eight hours straight without wanting the pressure of over-ear cups digging into their temples. For someone seeking comfortable headband headphones for flights, the reduced weight and on-ear profile make this a much more viable option for extended wear during transit or long meetings.
Audio performance is solid, featuring Yealink Acoustic Shield Technology to ensure clear voice transmission. The frequency range spans 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz, covering the full spectrum of human hearing for rich sound quality. Battery life is also impressive, offering an average of 14 hours of talk time, which comfortably covers a standard workday. However, it does not offer the same level of specialized encryption as the Poly model. While it is secure enough for general business use, it lacks the specific DECT Security Step C and FIPS 140-2 certifications required for highly regulated sectors. If your primary concern is cutting-edge interface control and lightweight comfort rather than top-tier data encryption, this headset hits the sweet spot.
• Best for Battery Life → Yealink DECT Headset WH66: With 14 hours of average talk time compared to 13 hours on the Plantronics, it ekes out a slight edge for marathon workdays.
• Best for Wireless Range → Plantronics Poly Savi 7320-M: The 580-foot line-of-sight range is nearly double what most standard headsets offer, giving you true room-to-room mobility.
• Best for Data Security → Plantronics Poly Savi 7320-M: Only the Poly model offers FIPS 140-2 certification and 256-bit AES encryption, making it the mandatory choice for sensitive industries.
• Best Interface Control → Yealink DECT Headset WH66: The 4-inch touch screen on the base station provides a level of tactile control and visual feedback that the Plantronics simply does not have.
• Best for Weight/Portability → Yealink DECT Headset WH66: At 80g versus 16oz (approx. 454g) for the carrying case setup, the Yealink is far less intrusive for all-day wear or travel.
• Best for Microsoft Teams Integration → Plantronics Poly Savi 7320-M: While both support Teams, the Poly version is explicitly optimized for the Open Office specification with dedicated call control features.
• Best for Noise Isolation → Plantronics Poly Savi 7320-M: The over-ear design naturally blocks more ambient noise than the on-ear style of the Yealink.
• Best Value for General Business → Yealink DECT Headset WH66: If you don't require military-grade encryption, the touch interface and light weight offer a modern, efficient solution for standard office needs.
After weighing the specifications, I would buy the Yealink DECT Headset WH66 for my own personal setup and general recommendation for most travelers. While the Plantronics Poly Savi 7320-M is an incredible machine for high-stakes security, its weight and bulk make it impractical for daily commuting or air travel. The Yealink strikes the perfect balance with its lightweight 80g frame and the innovative touch screen that simplifies call management. For anyone needing reliable, comfortable audio for flights or long conference calls without the burden of heavy gear, the WH66 is the smarter, more versatile choice.
Yes, but they serve different needs. The Yealink WH66 is better for travel due to its lightweight 80g design and on-ear comfort, making it easier to pack and wear for long periods. The Plantronics is too heavy for most travelers unless you specifically need its 580ft range in a large airport terminal.
Correct, the Plantronics Poly Savi 7320-M does not use Bluetooth, which is a key part of its security strategy. It relies entirely on DECT technology to prevent the vulnerabilities associated with Bluetooth connections, making it safer for sensitive environments.
Both utilize active noise cancellation and advanced acoustic shielding. However, the Plantronics Poly Savi 7320-M uses Poly Acoustic Fence technology specifically designed to filter out significant background noise, which may give it a slight edge in extremely loud industrial or open-office settings.
Yes, the defining feature of the Yealink WH66 is its 4-inch capacitive touch screen on the base station. You can answer calls, mute yourself, and adjust settings directly on the screen, offering a hands-free control method that the Plantronics model does not replicate.
