If you want a lightweight, over-ear headset with a rotating boom mic and Microsoft Teams certification for all-day comfort, choose Plantronics Poly Blackwire 3320; if you need a dual-ear on-ear design with dedicated call answer/hold buttons and acoustic hearing protection for a busy work-from-home environment, choose PLT Poly.
• Plantronics Poly Blackwire 3320: Best strength is its balanced over-ear comfort with a rotating microphone arm and passive noise cancellation; biggest trade-off is that it is wired-only with no Bluetooth. This pick is for the professional who needs reliable plug-and-play communication without battery anxiety.
• PLT Poly (EncorePro 525-M): Best strength is its specialized dual-ear on-ear design with physical hold/answer buttons and built-in volume limiting; biggest trade-off is the lighter, less cushioned fit compared to the Blackwire. This pick is for the remote worker or call center agent who manages constant call flows and needs immediate tactile controls.
The Plantronics Poly Blackwire 3320 is engineered for the user who prioritizes stability and audio fidelity during long conversations. As an over-ear model, it features padded ear cushions and a headband designed to be worn comfortably throughout the day. The enclosure combines metal and plastic components, giving it a sturdy feel that doesn't compromise on weight, which sits at just 210 grams. This makes it surprisingly light for a headset that fully cups the ears rather than resting on them.
One of the standout features for me is the microphone flexibility. The boom mic rotates 180 degrees, allowing you to position it on either side of your face. This is a practical design choice that accommodates different desk setups or personal preferences without needing to flip the entire headset around. The headset is certified specifically for Microsoft Teams and Skype for Business, ensuring seamless integration for professionals in corporate environments. It also includes Dynamic EQ to automatically optimize sound levels and SoundGuard technology to protect your hearing from sudden loud spikes.

However, this headset is strictly a wired solution. It connects via USB-C and does not offer wireless freedom. If you are looking for wireless headphones for basketball or any activity where you need to move away from your computer, this isn't the tool for that job. Similarly, while it offers passive noise cancellation through the ear cup design, it lacks active electronic noise reduction. You should buy the Blackwire 3320 if you sit at a fixed desk, need a high-quality stereo experience with hi-fi audio drivers, and value the ability to wear the device on one side or the other depending on your workspace. Skip it if you require Bluetooth connectivity or need a headset that doubles as a portable gaming solution for sports.
The PLT Poly EncorePro 525-M targets a very specific type of user: the person whose world revolves around constant calls and cloud communications. Unlike the Blackwire, this model features an on-ear design that rests on the outer ear rather than enclosing it. It weighs significantly less at just 55 grams, making it extremely lightweight, though this comes with a trade-off in terms of isolation and cushioning compared to the over-ear style of the Blackwire. The material is primarily plastic, keeping the unit compact and easy to handle.
What sets this headset apart is its focus on call management efficiency. It includes dedicated buttons for holding and answering calls right on the inline control. For someone managing multiple lines or working in a fast-paced environment, having these physical buttons can be a game-changer compared to relying solely on software or touch controls. It also boasts Acoustic Hearing Protection, a feature that actively manages safe volume levels to prevent long-term damage, which is crucial for heavy users. The headset is optimized for Microsoft Teams, offering a native experience accessed directly from the controller.
This model supports both USB-A and USB-C connectors on the cable, adding versatility for different computer ports. While it lists Bluetooth capabilities in some contexts, the primary utility here is the wired connection for stable, zero-latency communication. You should consider the PLT Poly if you are working from home and need a distraction-free zone with a dual-ear wearing style that keeps you grounded. It is excellent for those who need to quickly mute or answer calls without looking at their screen. However, if you are looking for over-ear headphones for basketball or a more immersive listening experience for music, the on-ear design might not provide the same level of bass response or isolation. It is a tool for productivity, not necessarily for entertainment or sports.
• Best for All-Day Comfort → Plantronics Poly Blackwire 3320 (Over-ear padding and 210g weight distribute pressure better).
• Best for Call Management → PLT Poly (Dedicated physical hold and answer buttons make workflow faster).
• Best for Microphone Versatility → Plantronics Poly Blackwire 3320 (180-degree rotating boom allows left or right placement).
• Best for Hearing Safety → PLT Poly (Built-in Acoustic Protection actively manages volume limits).
• Best for Portability → PLT Poly (Extremely light at 55g, easier to carry in a bag).
• Best for Wired Stability → Both are wired, but Blackwire offers a more robust connection feel for stationary use.
• Best for Gaming Headphones for Basketball → Neither is ideal for sports, but PLT Poly's lighter weight makes it slightly less cumbersome if used casually.
• Best Value for Corporate Teams → Plantronics Poly Blackwire 3320 (Certified for Teams with superior audio quality).
• Best for Remote Workflows → PLT Poly (Optimized for cloud comms with easy access to Teams features).
In my opinion, I would choose the Plantronics Poly Blackwire 3320 for general professional use because the over-ear design and rotating microphone offer a level of comfort and adaptability that the lighter PLT Poly cannot match. The blackwire feels like a premium tool for serious communication, whereas the PLT Poly feels more like a utilitarian device for high-volume call handling. That said, if your primary goal is finding wireless headphones for basketball or something to use during physical activity, neither of these wired headsets is the perfect fit, though the PLT Poly's minimal weight might make it slightly less intrusive during movement. Ultimately, for a dedicated workstation setup, the Blackwire 3320 wins on build quality and audio performance.
While it has dynamic drivers and stereo audio, it is a wired communication headset, so it is not designed as dedicated gaming gear. It works well for voice chat in games but lacks the surround sound features typical of gaming-specific models.
It relies on the on-ear fit for passive isolation and uses Acoustic Protection to manage volume safety rather than canceling background noise electronically.
The Plantronics Poly Blackwire 3320 is likely better for long sessions due to its over-ear cushioning and lighter overall weight distribution, reducing ear fatigue compared to the on-ear PLT Poly design.
These are primarily wired office headsets. They are not designed as over ear headphones for basketball for active sports, but if you need a lightweight option for casual movement near a desk, the PLT Poly is lighter at 55g.
