Best Places To Explore In East Peoria and West Peoria, Illinois

Illinois is a great state to visit, with many places to explore like Peoria. The cities of East Peoria and West Peoria are two great places to explore while you're here.

East Peoria's Old State Bank Building

The Old State Bank Building is a National Historic Landmark, making it the oldest standing structure in East Peoria. The building was constructed in 1855 and served as the first bank in East Peoria until it moved to a new location in 1875. In order to qualify for National Historic Landmark status, a structure must be at least 50 years old and have exceptional significance related to its architecture, engineering or culture (or all three). The Old State Bank Building meets both criteria; it's been around since before most of us were born!

The design of this historic landmark was done by architect John M. Van Osdel who also designed several other buildings throughout Illinois including Springfield's Chesterfield Hotel which still stands today as well as many others throughout Ohio where he spent much of his career before moving back home after retirement due primarily because he didn't want anyone else working on any projects involving Chicago skyscrapers during their construction phase so there wouldn't be any competition between them regarding who could build taller ones than another company doing similar work elsewhere around town."

Camp Ellis Historic Site

This historic site offers a glimpse into what life was like for soldiers during World War II. You can see an array of military equipment and vehicles, including tanks, jeeps and trucks. The camp also features several buildings that were used by soldiers during the war. The site is open for tours from May through October on Wednesdays through Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., with additional evening hours on Thursdays and Fridays (5 p.m.-8:30 p.m.).

To get there: From I-74 take exit 159A toward US Route 24/East Peoria Rd/Camp Ellis Rd; turn right onto US Route 24/East Peoria Rd; continue onto N Main St; turn left onto E Camp Ellis Rd; follow signs for Camp Ellis Historic Site or East Peoria Municipal Airport

The Illinois River Museum

The Illinois River Museum is a great place to explore the history and culture of the Illinois River. Located in Peru, IL, it's a museum dedicated to all things river-related: exhibits include a steamboat replica, Civil War-era gunboat and even an original riverboat.

The museum also features educational programs for students from kindergarten through high school; group tours can be scheduled by appointment only (for more information call 309-343-2120).

The Unity Center for the Performing Arts

The Unity Center for the Performing Arts is a great place to see live performances, movies and plays. It's also home to some of the best concerts around. The Unity Center has been around since 2010 and has been doing a lot of good in our community ever since.

The theater has two theaters: The Mainstage Theater and The Studio Theater which are both nice places that you can go too if you want something different than what they have on stage right now!

Illinois Gateway Industrial Heritage Trail

The Illinois Gateway Industrial Heritage Trail is a popular place for bike riders, hikers and bird watchers. It also has horseback riding trails that you can explore on your own or with friends.

You can start at any point along this trail and walk or ride until you reach another point on the trail. The path is paved so it's easy to travel on foot or by bike even if you're not used to physical activity!

Lake Murphysboro State Park

Lake Murphysboro State Park is a beautiful state park that offers plenty of things to do, including hiking, boating and fishing. The park also has a campground where you can stay overnight if you want to make it into a weekend getaway.

Located on the Illinois River and surrounded by beautiful natural scenery, this is one of my favorite places to visit in East Peoria or West Peoria Illinois.

Wildcat Bluff Nature Preserve and Wildlife Area

If you're looking for a place to unwind and take in the natural beauty of Illinois, Wildcat Bluff Nature Preserve and Wildlife Area is the perfect spot. This 2,000-acre preserve features hiking trails that wind through fields and woodlands, as well as open meadows where deer graze. The area also hosts fishing spots on its two lakes (one stocked with trout), an archery range, hunting grounds for pheasants and grouse as well as small game like rabbits and squirrels.

You can find Wildcat Bluff off of I-74 near East Peoria or West Peoria--just follow IL Route 26 south from either city until you reach the entrance sign on your right!

Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Park

You can visit this historic cabin and museum, or take a walk on the park's trails. There are picnic tables available for you to enjoy your lunch at and if you have kids with you, there's also a playground for them to play in.

If you're interested in learning more about Lincoln, Illinois or history in general, this is definitely worth checking out!

These are some of the best places to visit in Illinois.
