Accomplishments

2018 - 2019

  • Maintained the 0% Homestead tax credit and tax rate for 2019 despite the influence to raise taxes to meet the Constant Yield.
  • During the FY19 budget session, lowered city the tax rate for the first time since...
  • Expanded access to municipal voting.
  • Advanced the City Hall project.
  • Installed new sidewalks in Berwyn, including a flexi-pave application to protect tree roots
  • Engaged neighbors with the Lidl art project.
  • Improved Jack Perry Plaza with new community bulletin board.
  • Improved James Adams Park by paving the goat trails, removing unnecessary pavement, and creating new landscaping plans.
  • Expanded waste/recycling receptacles and "Together we can STOP Litter" signage throughout the city
  • Chaired the city's Seniors Committee and helped to stand-up Neighbors Helping Neighbors.
  • Coordinated service projects with UMD's Circle K Club, permaculture enthusiasts, and neighbors.
  • Implemented permit parking in Berwyn and Oak Spring to address existing and anticipated challenges with population growth.
  • Advocated for roadway/pedestrian improvements at the intersection of Greenbelt Road (MD430) and Rhode Island Avenue - work anticipated Summer 2019.
  • Made progress on Route 1 development projects...
    • Alloy and Cambria projects were completed.
    • Lidl is projected to be completed Summer 2019 (June/July).
    • Opposed a proposal for drive-thru project (Chick-Fil-A) at northeast corner of Baltimore Avenue and Greenbelt Road (MD430)





2016 - 2017

  • Lowered the Homestead Tax Credit to 0%.
  • Passed two balanced budgets & did not increase the tax rate.
  • Unanimously passed a resolution welcoming refugees to the City of College Park, Maryland.
  • Passed a motion to fly the pride flag every June at City Hall.
  • Coordinated community clean ups with neighbors, including UMD Greeks, CHUM, and SGA.
  • Emceed the Main Stage at College Park Day and raised money for the College Park Community Foundation by getting dunked!
  • Worked with the College Park City University Partnership on a “Midtown” study for Real Estate Development Concepts along Baltimore Avenue in District 2.
  • Conducted a litter logo competition to engage residents and communicate city priorities about proper disposal of waste and recyclables.
  • Budgeted for and installed waste receptacles throughout the city to enable proper disposal of waste and recyclables.
  • Supported allowing non-citizen residents to vote in municipal elections.
  • Budgeted for and worked with city staff and Boy Scout Troop 740 to clean up the end of Berwyn Road, install wooden guardrails, and (soon to come) install planters and bench so that residents can sit and watch the trains pass by.
  • Promoted Quality of Life initiatives and community networking through monthly Third Thirsty Thursday events.
  • Implemented the “Good Neighbor Award” student recognition program to celebrate the great contributions UMD student residents in our city. Congrats to James Mulholland!
  • Developed LiveCollegePark.com with the NQoL Homeownership subcommittee, CPCUP, and city staff.
  • Made progress on Route 1 development projects...
    • Completed the Detailed Site Plan for Lidl @ Baltimore Avenue & Berwyn Road
    • Revised the Detailed Site Plan for the Cambria Hotel @ Baltimore Avenue & Pontiac Street
    • Completed the Detailed Site Plan for the EZ Storage @ Branchville Road & 51st Place





2014 - 2015

  • Passed two balanced budgets & did not increase tax rate.
  • Passed a resolution to include non-discrimination language in our City Charter, expressing our city’s commitment to non-discrimination related to race, religion, sex, age, ethnicity, ancestry or national origin, physical or mental disability, color, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, genetic information or political affiliation.
  • Expanded security surveillance through Lakeland & Berwyn along Baltimore Avenue and the Trolley Trail.
  • The Berwyn Commercial District received the city’s first installation of LED Street Lights.
  • Led homeownership initiatives with NQoL committee members and Berwyn neighbors.
  • Partnered with UMD to promote homeownership with UMD employees.
  • Advocated for a more bike-able Baltimore Avenue and promoted Bike to Work Day with Councilman Wojahn.
  • Voted to allow citizens ages 18+ to run for city council.
  • Selected a site for the new City Hall.
  • Promoted Quality of Life initiatives on campus with our committee chair from College Park Woods.
  • As a District (District 2), we have increased our participation in City Boards and Commissions.
  • Hosted a Neighborhood Quality of Life forum to discuss strategies and solutions for community issues.

    • Completed the Detailed Site Plan for The Metropolitan @ Baltimore Avenue & Cherokee Street
    • Completed the Detailed Site Plan for 4700 Berwyn House Road Across from Spellman House Apartments
    • Completed the Detailed Site Plan for The Hotel @ Baltimore Avenue & Paint Branch Parkway
