The purple nights of Pisceria are thanks to the evolution of purple photosynethtic organisms on their moon, turning their regular old moon into a pre-crambrian like biosphere. Blanketing the little moon in purple, causing it to shine down on it's mother planet. Giving rise to strange adaptations to deal with this purple light.
The Timeswitchers are a species of sauromimids, closely related to the foxphins but not in their clade. Infact belonging to the clade that gave rise to the tallest herbivores of the Hiemacene. However they're active predators who made a strange evolutionary jump, with the different sexes having adaptations to different times of day.
The males are thinner and lankier, adapted greatly to chase down small prey like mouse like sauromimids and lizard-like centaurs. Their light fur color being able to blend in with the light colored grasses. Their long snouts mastered to snap up small prey escaping to the burrows. However due to being lankier are weaker to predators who wrestle their prey down... however their mates can.
The Timeswitchers are monogamous sauromimids, living in the same den and feeding both their partners and young. Once it the sun sets, the males go into their burrows greeting their mates and calves. Feeding their calves regurgitated prey to feed on, as the females leave the den. The males soon falling asleep as their calves playfully wrestle each other.
Female timeswitchers are bulkier and purple to survive the cold harsh purple nights. With stripes to break out their outlines, stalking the dark plains. Their bulk allows them to shrug off attacks from predatory bony-eared centaurs, but most importantly... hunting megafauna. Stray gallopers are an easy meal, leaping onto their necks and strangling them down, slashing and trashing until the galloper succumbs and perish.
Feeding on the megafauna makes them quite capable as organisms, accessing a niche others of their size or lifestyle cannot. As the female eats up her kill, she drags it back to her den and gives it to her family to feast on it as she continues hunting. Under the purple light of the world.
