Under the purple moonlight, strange creatures roam. From small mouse like seed eaters, to bumbling giant herbivores. However one clade of centaurs roam the nights, becoming the terrors of stories... hunting prey others wouldn't dare.
These bony-ear centaurs are hunters of prey considerably larger than themselves. From small weasel-like species that wrestle bulky dwarf big-nose centaurs, to the Laho clade masters of hunting large Gallopers, Soarers and Centaurs. Their favorite prey? The Axetail Battleswine and Beige Towerer, both considerably larger and heavier than it by multiples of 2 or more.
Their secret? Their bony ears. Derived from ancestral bones for ear stability, have grown and developed into "hands". These hands can change to redirect sound for better hearing, or as face shields from brutal attacks. The Lahos' ears are tougher than their relatives, being able to with stand fellow centaur bites. Often charging in on them and chomping down on their neck, shielding the face with their ears as their body slithers on. Teeth perfectly interlocking can remain on prey for hours at the time due to special tendons. Weakening it's prey before it dies to blood loss, ready for it to feed. Dragging it's corpse to it's home in the moss towers, keeping it out of reach of even the most persistent terrestial scavenger.
However like their prey, they are not all savages. While solitary hunters, on the moss trees are it's mates. Besides them are it's children, all descended from it and it's female mate. As this species often has three or more individuals of varying sexes bonded as any monogamous species. The whole family feeds on the recent large kill, gazing at their beautiful purple moon. For they may live on as their cousin clade fades.
